Would you be disappointed with a 38-1 season?

Losing in the tournament of course. I ask this because as you know we melted like a candle in 2015. It was dark times for us. Would you guys be just as mad or would you be happy with your season?

I would like to say I'd be rational enough to appreciate what an accomplishment 38 wins is, but I wouldn't. I know me. I'd be sick to my stomach and it would only get worse with time lol

I haven't gotten over '99 which I think was arguably the best Team we've had in the last 20 years. A loss like that and in '04 makes me appreciate '01, '10, '15 more though. Not sure that answers the troll question but my expectations this year, barring no serious injuries that derail it are final four or bust. Once there, we all know anything can happen.

It would depend on at what point in the tournament the loss happened...how it happened...and against what team it happened.

If you have an undefeated regular season and then lose early in the tourney...then yes it's pretty hard not to be devastated.

If the team plays crappy (turnovers, loss of poise, etc.) and loses then it would really suck. If it was a well played game by both teams, but the other team was just a little better...it would still hurt like hell, but at least you could rationalize the loss to a certain degree.

Now if the loss was to the Tar Heels, then that would enter into unchartered territory as far as losses are concerned. It would be the mother of all losses. Living in NC would make it even more unbearable.

I don't anticipate an undefeated season (Duke never has had one), and that's not the goal anyway...winning a natty is. Hopefully, Duke can kick the Heels azz at least twice this year and make a solid run for a championship.
I can live with that.:)

I would be dissappointed with a 38-1 season but that's if the one loss came in the tournament, but I would take 1 loss before the NCAA tournament and then win the national championship any day of the week!

Would 38 wins would have us losing in the championship or final four I think? I would pretty much look at it very similar to the 99 season. One of the best teams ever but always "What if". Super fun to watch, but makes me slightly mad every time I think of them.

I'll never get over '99. Can't watch that game when its re-run.

Careful guys. Your team is just as stacked as ours was in 2015. If it does you will be cursing my name times two lol

As said before, really depends where the loss comes from...beginning or end. What if we lost the home opener and then went on a tear....am I sad?...no. What if we lost the ACC tourney championship and then went on a tear....am I sad?...no. What if we lost to UNC at home and then went on a tear?....am I sad (sure, for a moment)....then no.

Winning the NCCA championship would cleanse most any palate of the bitter taste of a one-loss season.

How embarrassing it must be to finish a season 38-1. Yuck.

No going into the season undefeated and losing in the NCAA, how would that feel? I guess we could ask UNLV.

I've never been the type to stress over winning a title or not. My enjoyment comes from watching a bunch of great kids represent my school the right way. The only time I am disappointed is when I don't think they are giving their all or appreciating their opportunity.

38-1 would be great in my eyes. Frankly, I thought this past year was fantastic. It was a bit of a rollercoaster, but that is what made it so fun. There was never an issue of heart, toughness, or effort on the floor and I enjoyed that team as much as I've enjoyed any others in recent memory.

So if we go undefeated in lose in the NC game, I'm still gonna cheer for these kids and I'm still going to have loved the season we had.

I agree completely. However, of all the 39 games we could possibly play -- the last game would be the one that I would like to lose least...

Good thoughts - first thing I thought of was '99. '99 hurt for a while. So did '04 - especially since it came pretty close on the heels of '99 where I think we had the best team. We should have won in '04 if not for the officiating.

To the OP question ... I would be very disappointed to go 38-1. I would still appreciate the team but it would long leave a bitter taste.
