Would you consider taking your cash out of the bank right now

Was thinking about this today as it seems that a lot of politicians and talking heads seem content to let the country stay closed for as long as they possibly can.

I know Trump keeps saying he wants to open it up and I believe him but I don't know if he will be able to do it without all the Media & advisors telling him not too. Seems he is in a no win situation.

If he opens it up and cases go back up they will say it is all his fault. If he keeps it closed like they want the economy and country will never be the same in afraid.

If we go in to a big depression again will the money you have in the bank be safe? I know they say all banks are insured but are they really? What happened to people money that was in banks during the great depression?

Damn you guys are brutal today. I was reading about the great depression and all the banks that collapsed and the people who lost their life savings. Didn't realize there wasn't bank insurance back then.

The government not only fully insures you account into the mid-six-figure range, they also have vast liquidity potential unknown in 1932 (ability to print money).

I brought $5000 home with me a few weeks ago. I had clients taking some out and it spooked me. I actually just told my wife tonight as she doesn't pay attention to the account.

The rest is in the bank. I don't have room for all of it in my house. True story btw

Haven't read this thread but I DON'T LIKE BANKS. They want your money, they get it and then will tell how you can get your money back. (Bitches be charging you for your access to your money)
Not a good deal.
I could rant for a long time on banks, but I won't.

We're friends with a Venezuelan couple, I asked them about what living with inflation is like because I am awkward. They said the bank cut a couple digits from their balance when it got really bad. So yeah getting a bunch of cash would help part of that scenario... but the part where the price of toilet paper goes up by 10x, cash not going to help at all.

I did ask questions specially about what they would do differently if they knew hyperinflation was coming. They said they would get rid of rental property because nobody is going to pay, and buy more stocks because their stock market skyrocketed. They are in a lucky situation because he gets paid in dollars, so the unsaid advice might be to diversify your currency savings.

Out daughter in-law called us a couple of weeks ago and told us her employer was sending her home to work. It was payday and he advised her to go straight to the credit union and get her money and take it home. She wanted to know what we thought about that. My wife put her on speaker and we told her that unless there's a massive weather event that's going cause widespread power outages for days/weeks, she should just go home. If nothing else, this virus has shown me that there is no shortage of bat guano crazy and paranoid people out there.

What did you do get it in nickels? 5 grand would fit in my wife’s shoebox and she wears a size 6.

I was mostly being facetious. Yes, there are tons of batshit crazy, paranoid people who were already out there. This virus has brought out those who you might not have expected, or at least to that degree. That must be a helluva way to go through life.

Agreed. I had a few take $20-30K. Thats going to be fun for them re-depositing when they decide to do so. The branch told me they actually had to place an emergency cash order as within two days they went through over $150,000 in cash.

Simply consider recent runs on toilet paper, no pun intended. Run on face masks of any kind, designer masks included, represents yet another adventure in capitalism, both good and bad.

Hopefully these people have the intelligence to put the cash in a water and fire proof safe. But these people panicking over anything are generally not.
