Let me present this scenario to you guys. It is just something to ponder. Let's say we go back to 1980. Bill Foster who has built a good program, went took a team to the finals and had some good rerupting classes decides to leave. Anticipation grows among this board as to who the new coach at be. We feel like Duke is an excellent job and we feel several top coaches of the time should be thought about. Then our AD Tom Butters hires a coach who we can't even pronounce his name much less spell it. This coach has losing record at Army. Army for goodness sakes. He does however have a winning record because of some really good players Foster left behind. He then has 2 straight seasons of losing basketball. Because of Foster we are used to winning seasons by now and this military like coach who is totally different in coaching style doesn't seem to be getting any big time talent is still the coach. How many would still be a Duke fan. I know all the OFC would. Just curious. OFC
K, like Dean Smith, had a shaky start but was given enough time to get it going.

In today's climate, both of those superior coaches would very likely have been toast before things started clicking.

And after "failing" at Duke and Carolina, we might never have heard of them again.

But K had a harder go at it. He had to do it without cheating.

Win or lose... I will always be a Duke fan for life. yes we have been spoiled by Coach K over the decades and it has been an amazing time.. but I'm here for the long haul as a Duke fan.

It's not only a sport, it's also a passion, and in some sense a way of life. Many of my friends know me 1st by being a huge Duke fan. Even when I am travelling and wearing Duke gear... people will start conversations with me whether they are Duke fans themselves or even hate Duke lol.

We have been at the top of the mountain over these years seeing 5 national championships won in span of 28 years which = to a championship almost every 5.6 years. We are seeing K going strong still today. When K does retire (hopefully several more years away) I think we see a drop off in wins etc.. at least at the start. And we may not... either way I will still be going to games and also cheering at home as well as sporting my Duke gear. Duke 4 Life.

So let me ask you this.....your answer may differ from your board because you always seem to be more sensible and realistic than most of them. Pitino was loved here. Now he is hated more than anyone I can think of.....what if he came back to uk?
Wow, that is a hard one. I didn't dislike Pitino for being a "traitor" It was his job, the things he did afterward though makes me not a fan. I wouldn't want him as UK coach because of other matters

You never want anyone there that can make you embarrassed to be a fan or give your rivals legit ammo. That’s one great thing about being a Duke fan.

ODD! Hope you been doing well buddy! I have been off the boards this summer travelling some. Love the pic above! Totally going to borrow the pic above to use! Got married this past June... and in some of my closeup wedding photos... you can see my "Duke for Life" bracelet on my wrist lol!

Great to hear from you Skee! I knew you were engaged, but I didn't know you were married yet! Congrats, buddy, and I hope you and your lovely wife have a terrific life together.

As far as me, I've had a few problems, but I'm hanging in there. I haven't been posting much on here
this off season, but I'm hoping to be more active as the season gets closer.

Hope you'll be posting more, and maybe even write us up an article or two.:)

What's up dirt. Good to see you back. OFC

Not too much, Sky! I've just been trying to get a little rest here and there. I've had so many sick animals, especially kittens, (which I rescue from my neighborhood) that I've been very busy. It's tiring work (and expensive!!!), but I love animals, especially cats).

Hope you and your family are doing well my friend! I know I haven't been able to post as much lately, but
I'm hoping to change that when we get closer to the start of the season. I'm always thinking of you, and you're in my prayers. Take care!
