Would you still follow KSR without Matt Jones?

Sometimes people have a talent in one field, and then just cant believe thats all there is. Athletes wanna be singers, Comedians want to be dramatic, Matt Jones wants to be a politician.

Learn the lesson of ESPN, Matt. People don't want to mix politics with their sports. You are going to cook your golden Goose.

They need to finish the food bracket or I’m done and I won’t vote for MJ for dogcatcher. Come on KSR make it happen.

Sure. It's UK coverage. I like UK

I don't need my political views affirmed to like something because I don't look at every issue through a political lense because that would make me a lame *** jabroni who wanted to live in a bubble with only people who think like me. My politics likely don't jive with 75-90 percent of this board, but I don't hate other posters just for seeing the world differently than me.

never once listen or watched or...what is it exactly?

not trying to be an *** or anything. I don't really care for a some fan talking.
So you say you don't care for something you claim you've never heard or seen...kind of like saying you don't like Brussel sprouts but admit that you've never tasted them.

I like Matt Jones. The political stuff is hurting him already, and going to destroy his brand. Now if running for senator of KY is your lifelong dream, I guess go for it. But his chances of winning are very very low. It will be hard for him to recover his radio show after running. Regardless if you run as a republican or democrat, you are going to lose 40-50 percent of your audience. I wish he would stop the political stuff.

I would agree that it's toxic to mix politics with sports - just ask ESPN, or IMO as a businessman, any type of organization that deals with the public at large.
I think running for the US Senate with no prior political experience is sort of a pipe dream even for someone well known like Matt. It takes a butt load of money to launch a serious senatorial campaign and neither party's national committee will be inclined to fund you unless you have at least a punchers chance of winning and can drop some serious cash of your own into the coffers.

Kentucky is historically a red state, so regardless if you agree or disagree with him politically he would have a very tough uphill climb especially taking on a savvy experienced politician like McConnell. I would give his chances at winning less than 3%. If McConnell were to step down and the seat became open maybe a 10-15% chance.

Matt left the website and it’s awful now. Radio is awesome, but if he left that, it would not exist. So, no, if MJ is absent there is no KSR as we know it.

I don't follow KSR with him. I can barely stomach the tweets he sends out because of the politics and other nonsense. I only follow him on Twitter to get occasional recruiting news or some other UK info I missed.

I just don't spend time listening to talk radio or podcasts. I have other things I'd rather do with my time. Maybe if he were around when I was younger and more diehard about UK sports I might be more interested.

124 yrs of the last 159 KY has had a democrat in the governor's seat. US senators from KY being republican is a fairly recent thing, starting in the 1990's. Prior to that, most were democrats. I would agree that KY is probably a socially conservative state.

Anyways, I don't listen to Matt Jones now. Probably won't listen after he fails to get elected.

Jones is interesting to me. He doesn't write particularly well, yet started and developed a very successful blog. He doesn't speak very well, and is rude at times to boot, but yet has a very successful radio show. It's ironic. I give him big props for figuring out how to harness his fandom into something profitable. I mean, great for him - he figured out how to make a good living from BBN. My guess is if he left, the radio show, blog, etc. would eventually die. And until very recently in history, you'd figure he had no chance at winning a state wide political election. But we're in a weird time. Who knows. People really don't like McConnel, so maybe......But he's a novice, and McConnel is organized, well funded, and ruthless. My guess is that's a bad combination for Jones.

Turned it off for the second day in a row for the exact same reasons I turn the show off when it's over so I don't hear Rush Limbaugh.

Like clockwork in these sports/politics threads you get the same 5-6 liberals stating how they don't let political opinion from sports people bother them. Well, no ****, you don't ever have to deal with crap you don't agree with.

With Matt contemplating a run at the senate I think this is an interesting topic since most of us on here do follow KSR. Personally, I would follow it to an extent but my interest diminish a great deal. Without Matt the KSR morning show becomes Big Blue Insider, the website would be no more interesting than any other UK sports site even though Matt never posts articles anymore.

Like or hate Matt you can't deny that he is the unofficial voice of UK.I will say though that if Matt does leave it leaves a huge vacuum for someone to fill. His personalty is what sold the brand. His shoes will be hard to fill.

Horseface Grimes held state-wide office and comes from a well known political family. She got her butt kicked by 16 points going up against Mitch. Jones would be a much longer shot than Grimes due to the fact that many in Louisville (democrat stronghold) can't stand him and he is a political novice. As for KSR, I never listen now.

I think he has a decent shot. He's very smart and clearly has been successful in everything he has tried. If he surrounds himself with some good advisers he has a chance.

Only listened a few times during Squirtgate, he's a hard listen, needs to gargle or pop lozenges on the hour every hour.

b/c liberals do not let people have opinions that are not lockstep with their own. Especially media. You conform or you go. And people who say they don't care, would not be there if their opinion was not identical to the libs.

I may start listening to KSR if Matt Jones wasn't on there.
There is no place for politics on any sports radio show.
Can we get the Joe B. and Denny show back instead?
The people that complain about politics on KSR have probably never listened to KSR. They are like the people who complain about CNN but say then never watch it.

There may be 1% political content on the show and that might be high. What might be political is more likely a discussion about personalities than policies.

Why don't you go compare the ratings of Joe B and Denny and you might find your answer.
Matt has found a pretty good formula for what works with his audience and that is backed up by the growth and success of KSR.

I would follow as long as it continued to be entertaining/informative. I don't tune in because it's Matt Jones. I tune in because of the content. If it continues to be entertaining and informative I will tune in no matter who is running the show. If it starts to suck I will stop tuning in no matter who is running the show.

Yes, as I never let politics interfere with my entertainment choices.

But when the political ideology begins to permeate your entertainment choice...

I haven’t listened for years, but like most: you get bombarded with politics all hours of the day. Most just want an escape for a couple of hours a day, especially when it comes to Kentucky basketball

Matt Jones is a lot of things, but dumb isn't one of them. In his heart he knows he cannot beat Mitch or any other Republican for that matter. He also knows he has a good thing going with KSR. He's not going to run IMO.
