Dont see that every day...

Yeah, actually never saw it until this year. I actually think some of these big-school teams have trouble playing against quick, diminutive point guards like the UMBC guy. Michigan State had similar problems against the Middle Tennessee guards when they were upset. They just don't play against that type of player too often. Also, a tempo team can get in trouble when they fall behind by double-digit margins. Virginia was very passive, settling for three-pointers when they had the advantage inside.

So you're saying there's a chance?
Definitely more than "a bit different"

Was I the only one who had to Google UMBC to learn who in fact was actually responsible for what is being termed the greatest upset in Sports History?

Virginia has now been on the losing end of the two biggest upsets in NCAA basketball history: Chaminade and now this. Now that's notoriety.

Virginia gets a Mulligan on the Chaminade loss. They had just flown from Japan to Maui and could literally not stand up.

The DePaul loss to St. Joe's I think is right there....want to say it was a 48 team field (can that be right)

I didn't realize that game was being played in Hawaii against a home team. Were there ref issues as well like the Wildcats experienced in the last football game we played there?

The only reason I knew of them is that they played us a number of years ago. I believe that they had recently joined division 1 at that point.

Former Big Ten Commissioner Wayne Duke was the commissioner of the Maui Invitational and, as a result, every year Maui had the top-graded refs from the previous year flown in for the tournament.

The game was played at the high point of the Asian jet-lag. Chaminade was not a bad team. Ralph Sampson was not Wilt Chamberlain.
