"The NCAA also has threatened to withhold championship events from North Carolina over the law. The organization began selecting sites for the 2019-22 men’s basketball tournaments in June, and NCAA President Mark Emmert said HB2 would hurt the state’s chances of hosting a regional, as it often does."

“For the universities and colleges that are members of the NCAA, diversity and inclusion is one of the benchmark values that every one of those institutions adheres to,” Emmert said in March. “So this is an issue of great importance for us. … The experience that our student-athletes, teams, universities, the fan base has, in any one community, is a consideration in where we determine to play these games. …

“In that context … and I’ve chatted with [McCrory] about this, it will most certainly be one of the variables considered when the committee makes these decisions where to play these games. It simply has to be. It’s far too important to all of our member schools.”

KSR was talking about it this am in the last 10 mins of their broadcast.

This is interesting:

"The Associated Press
Posted: Jul. 13, 2016 7:00 am Updated: Jul. 13, 2016 6:39 pm
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Duke has an opening on its men's basketball schedule because of the state law that impacts LGBT people.

The Blue Devils were supposed to play Albany on Nov. 12 as part of the Hall of Fame Tipoff tournament but there's no opponent listed on that day in Duke's schedule that was released Wednesday.

Holly Liapis, spokeswoman for the State University of New York system that includes Albany, says that game won't be played because of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's executive order banning publicly funded, non-essential travel to North Carolina.

Cuomo's order is in response to a North Carolina law that opponents say can allow discrimination against LGBT people.

Liapis said SUNY and its campuses continue to support Gov. Cuomo "on taking this stand."

With Albany out, the first version of the schedule released by Duke had the Blue Devils playing Marist on Nov. 12. An amended version issued roughly an hour later had a vacancy for that day and indicated that the Hall of Fame notified Duke that its opponent has not yet been confirmed.

Duke begins the season with two on-campus games in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off — the opener against Grand Canyon on Nov. 11, and the still-undetermined game the next day.

Duke spokesman Cory Walton said tournament organizers are responsible for filling that opening. In addition to Duke, Marist, Grand Canyon and Albany, the remaining four schools in the tournament field are Cincinnati, Penn State, Rhode Island and Brown."

End of the article Linked: "The NCAA this spring announced a policy to require sites hosting or bidding on both its predetermined and merit-based events to show how they will provide an environment that is "safe, healthy and free from discrimination."

Is the NCAA threatening to not schedule just regionals in NC, or all tourney games, including first/second round games? Seems like every year either Charlotte, Raleigh, or Greensboro gets to host first/second round games.

What I got from the article was, it was no future NCAA tournament games in NCarolina unless it was changed. All near close committed dates for tournament games by the ncaa will not be included.to NCar threat. Sounds like a WARNING.

There is an article on ESPN's College Basketball page with Coach K saying it is appalling to have such a thing. I doubt he gives a crap if not for the fact the NCAA has made this statement. With that said I will believe that Emmert and the NCAA pulls Duke and UNC out of North Carolina for the first 2 weekends of the tournament for any reason when I see it.

That New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's executive order banning publicly funded, non-essential travel to North Carolina is multi million dollar stuff. The ACC schools from NCarolina is potentially band from the NY airwaves. With the ACC move to include former Big East schools, that is gonna hurt the bottom line of the ACC. They are launching a SECnetwork type thing soon. Big Bucks there.

Not that I really have read this law or really care to. But, is there any chance I pull into a public john in NC and see Caitlyn hiking his dress up at the urinal?? Or would it be some chick who defines themself as male but still has the female plumbing?? I'm so damn confused......I'll just go piss behind a tree.

When K goes screaming at the NCAA in protest. Watch the NCAA allow Duke to play in Durham the first round.
KSR hinted that in their comments today on their show, that Coach K wants wants reform on that subject of NC law. I couldn't find a reference one way or the other.

It is so simple, you just can't discriminate. Period. Don't use your religion, your personal beliefs, whatever as an excuse. So, you create individual rest rooms. But, good for the NCAA and the NBA and whomever else. F Carolina!

Im confused really on this whole subject and the laws concerning it. Who is being discriminated against?

What if instead of men and women rooms we have penis and ****** rooms.
If you have a penis you go in the penis room, if you have a ****** you go in the ****** room? or does that make too much sense? Cant see any discrimination there

Or easier, a standing or squatting room.

Individual restrooms require more space and more $ and public restrooms. That is the main reason why there are public restrooms.

Proponents of the NC law say that the purpose is to protect the children, to help prevent perverted child molesters from having easy access to kids by going to whichever restroom they want to go to. They say there aren't that many transgender people to get offended.
Opponents of the NC law say that this discriminates against transgender people, forcing them to go into the RR that they feel uncomfortable in. They say there aren't that many perverts to take advantage of a law that would allow anyone to choose their RR.

The city of Charlotte passed an ordinance allowing you to pick your bathroom, causing the NC legislature to write the current law. Gov McCrory then agreed to not veto the law, and went with it (even though sources say he wasn't entirely supportive of it).

Like most controversial laws, both sides have a reasonable point. There has to be somewhere to meet in the middle, although I'm not seeing it.

How many games does Dook play in NYC? Seems they are always there playing some junk opponent in the pre-season. If I were Dook/UNC/NC State, etc. I'd feed NY a dose of their own medicine and just play elsewhere.

This ^^^ is exactly why I despise the NBA and NCAA for stepping foot into the political realm. This is a basketball forum twisting into a political soapbox. I have tons to say on the subject but I'll refrain since this supposed to be about sports, not politics.

Some issues are made WORSE by creating laws. This is one of those issues.
How many of you have personally been impacted by this issue??? I haven't and don't personally know anyone else who has. Mountain being made out of a mole hill.
I actually know someone ( a mother with a daughter) who was confronted by an obvious male who "identified as a woman" entering the same restroom they were using. She was uncomfortable with the situation and left the store.
Bottom line is there are some genetic markers that never lie. All the surgery on the planet won't change that. Born male, always male at the genetic level. But, the rest of us are being coerced into accepting these people as what they claim they are. People much smarter than me have called such cases mental illness and that seems pretty accurate to me.

No wonder Krzyzewski is peeing his panties over this law. Morals be damned. Krzyzewski wants those 2 home games to start the tournament. Now we all see what an immoral piece of garbage that Ratface is.

While I'm not surprised that there have been will continue to be more protests against that law, I didn't think about it affecting major sports like this. I won't put my opinion here one way or the other.

Btw, they do have squatty potties here in China, and I'm a bit nervous to try one... Haha!

I'll use your logic. Like a pediphile rapist will follow your laws anyway. I posted a transgender bathroom sign on my porch and it didn't rape anyone. Caitlan Jenner is transgender and he didn't rape anyone.

I was listening to Bomani Jones the other day discussing the new tourney rule that the top seed can choose where they play in the opening weekend. He stated something along the lines that the rule was created to benefit Duke, so that they DIDN'T have to play in NC. With all the UNC fans there cheering against them, playing in NC was not the home game its meant to be. Duke's loses to Mercer and Lehigh were both in NC.

Oh jesus christ yhou can't be freakin serious. Men use mens rooms and women use the women's rooms is discrimination? I think people are trying to invent reasons to feel self important.
