Iran, Russia and Turkey invited to Syrian meeting, U.S. left out. Leading from behind doesn't work. I am amazed at how little respect we have now in the Middle East. Obama made a huge mistake in Syria and allowed Russia to reenter the Middle East after basically being banished in the 70's.

Russia has been propping up the Syrian government for my lifetime and has never been banished from there. It would be a surprise to be invited by the Syrian government since we've been doing our best to overthrow them.

Russia was virtually absent from the Middle East, certainly in terms of influence until Obama's tenure. Now, they are calling many of the shots. They own Iran and now Syria. Iran will eventually encapsulate Iraq as it attempts to resurrect the Persian Empire. Russia will also attempt to influence the gulf states to help prop up oil prices, which Russia desperately needs. Egypt hates Obama due to his support of the Muslim Brotherhood. We are at a low point in that region. We need to rebuild our relationships, our prestige and our trustworthiness.

Russia has owned Syria since the 70s. It's nothing new -- the difference is that it's getting more attention now because there is a US-supported opposition. We took a chance to overthrow that pro-Russian government the same way we've done every time we had the chance post WW2. Getting rid of pro-Russian governments and securing our oil supply have been the two main drivers of our foreign policy for almost 70 years.

I wouldn't say they've been absent. Alot of the countries there sport Warsaw Pact military equipment.

When the Arab Spring happened we supported the existing governments in US-supported countries like Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar, Egypt, UAE. We supported the rebels where governments were more aligned with Russia like Libya and Syria. Quadafi was trying to play both sides but Syria was clearly in the Russian camp and has been for many years.

Russia's relationship with Syria is one thing. We are now out and Russia is calling the shots. Russia just sold $8B in weapons to Iran. Assad is Iran's puppet. Iran is in Iraq today. We blew off the gulf states with the Iran deal and they are turning to others including Russia. We are hated in Egypt. We interferred with the Israeli election and have the worst relationship with Israel in my lifetime.

Lot's of corrections needed.

We ousted Mubarak. Bad mistake. Then supported Muslim Brotherhood, worse mistake. Took action in Libya. Terrible decision. Millions of migrants and new ISIS territory.

It all started and the foundation of subsequent actions to be taken during the initial tour Obama took immediately after taking office. He apologized for everything he could think of to apologize for and seemed to make it clear that he had no idea what he would or should do in the middle east and was also quite clear that he had no intention of thwarting any action taken by any one with an Islamic lean.In short, he was a man out of his element and fully incapable of handling the job for which he had been elected. He then spent 8 years proving to the American public that he was incompetent in foreign affairs, especially as related to anything Islamic.

We did not oust Mubarak. We supported him until it was apparent that he was going to be ousted. The Muslim Brotherhood took over the government and we maintained ties with them, while evaluating the suspension of military and other aid.

Obama decided to support the Muslim brotherhood. That is the simple fact. We could've done much more to support Mubarak
