Talked to a couple coaches last night and no one explicitly said that results weren’t shareable but would like to be invited back in the future so won’t rock the boat (also wanted to take pics but no one else was… so keeping everything in line with my 🐑 mentality 😂).

Figs/Ramirez felt like a championship match where both wrestled conservatively with a hard hand fight. Figs looked physically stronger but I was impressed how Ronny didn’t give an inch.

Vega is a string bean! He could put 15lbs of muscle on easy. Good defense. Wrestled a little tentative offensively imo. Young is solid. If he would transfer his freestyle offensive approach to folk style, he’d be hard to beat.

Swid will be fun.

Like someone above said, Teague and Landon are cut from the same cloth. My instinct is that Robideau would get us more points in March but a redshirt is enticing also.

Lockett just seems like an adult in the room. Carries himself with swagger. Strong, persistent, doesn’t back down. Gotta stay focused all match though. Has a tendency to let things distract which we saw in U20s. Haven’t seen Ish wrestle before but came away impressed. Was he highly ranked in HS? Wrestles hard. Solid defense. Active on offense.

Thompson is Big in person. Like wrestling a brick wall. If he had more offense, I’m not sure anyone stops him. Ryder was probably the most aggressive wrestler of the night (aside from Swiderski)

I haven’t seen Mower wrestle before. Holy cow is he tall/lean. If something happens to Ross, add 30 pounds to that guy and let’s go! I didn’t watch a lot of Cody in high school but agree with whoever said he could use a shot of confidence. He’s technically sound and compared to Mower, seemed light for the weight (no clue how true that is). High ceiling though. Needs to wrestle pissed off.

Just my .02

Ish was top 60 in Flo's class of 2025 rankings. Last year he beat Joe Jeter in the state finals (after losing to him in their dual). Jeter is now a senior and is #2 at his weight in the country after losing at WNO. Also last year he lost to Routledge in the 3rd place match at Fargo. The year before Ish lost to Lockett in the state finals. And his dad is a legend.

I’ve got a lot of thoughts/questions about the upper weights but I’ll distill them down to this as someone with zero insider knowledge just wondering out loud: is there a world where BT bumps up to 197 if Mower/Merrill aren’t where they should be?

I think most people have a general understanding of how the matches went from the bits and pieces on the page. Keep in mind these matches by no means interpret who will start in March. They also do not reflect who had an above average day or below average day. They do not reflect who has been winning in the room or who is more apt to score points and win big matches under the bright lights.

But man, it's nice to have some real depth at several weights and this will continue to only get better!

I had a busy night, preceded by a busy week and today is gonna be a banger too!

Here’s info. We got some young guns that are going to be fun!

25- yeah, known commodity there!
33- Figs can score points in March. Rin has a minor injury right now.
41-Vega is huge, he can make the weight and it’s being done right. Carter is Carter. We will probably see both. Tagen will have something to say here after the break.
49- Swid kicked ***!
57- Robadoo is a D o double G! Teague is also a guy that can score points in March. Both of these young men are what is wanted by the staff!
65- World level talent! Kody is no slouch as well.
74- We will be happy here
84- We have two guys here! One is extremely hard to score on and one tries to score. BT is good enough to take anyone in the top 10 to OT, but he’s not going to score a ton. Ryder is a tough out for anybody in the Top 5.
97- Merril is good! IMO needs some strength and confidence.
HWT- I still contend we will be super happy here.

So, nothing groundbreaking here that we really don’t already know. Still got some work to do!
Doucet looks like a beast, but scoring is a mentality. He’ll do well no matter what.

Blows my mind! Cant finish under the lights.

last season, I’m pretty sure he had most shots on target and had, by far the lowest conversion.

I can’t figure this one out.
I know you know and most on this forum but people on the outside looking in will never understand the mental side of wrestling. Ive been told time and time again Carter has all the tools but gets in his own head.

Some guys can do it in the room but can't seem to get it done in competition. That's exactly why wrestle offs don't work in college. It doesn't matter who wins in the room it matters who wins against the competition. And that's why you notice most schools have started calling them rankings matches

He had tremendous success. It’s odd to me that he doesn’t have a strong mentality!

100%. It’s almost to the point you’re either born with it or not. Zahid, Hendrickson, Hamiti did it this year, in some different circumstances, which attests to the superb ability of our coaching staff and culture, but it doesn’t happen often. Learning not to care if you win or lose, just wrestle hard, sounds great unless you are in a losing streak.

Career 41-35 record and 0-4 at the NCAA tournament. He's had some good wins in his career he had Happel's # he beat him 3 times. Last year he didn't have any bad losses. Vega getting the better of him definitely won't help his confidence. I think they use Vega for his 5 dates and save his RS. If Jamison can't make it back to 141 I say you let Vega wrestle he's definitely a 149 in the future

I don't think he has the strength to finish on his shots. Just my observation.

And when it mattered 🤷. Merrill beats Mower daily but with a weigh in and pressure he didn't.
I’m not sure it mattered that much…

Merrill is fine and probably had some confidence about not being peak, while still winning. Didn’t happen that way and he learned a great lesson!

Being fine is not what we are looking for anymore. I think we are looking for good plus or great. I thought when we got Cody's commitment, I really thought we had a multiple time National Champ. Again, his match with the Iowa National Champ which was very close made me think, he can be great. The last 2 summers concerned me and of course I was not excited about the wrestle back results. Cody needs wins to build confidence and so he should wrestle against Stanford which does not have a good 197.

We expect similar. He will be fine or he won’t.

I think he will be fine!

Cody has great potential, we all know it. As far his summer wrestling who knew that Radamacher was going to make crazy jumps and beat him? I meant hell, Rad was only a world champ. Mirasola has had an extra year of college in a great freestyle room. I think everyone needs to stop sweating it. Corby keeps poking that bear about the ranking match and ya'll keep reacting lol. Weve already seen how many former Cowboys posted about losing ranking matches.

And of course Cody is the guy for the stanford dual. He's also the guy for Natty Duals and the whole rest of the damn season.

I just don't understand the he lost and the he didn't lose. Cormier comments about it . Yet we got people saying he didn't lose🤷. What's going on 🤣 @chasepollard
