Were they really down or did it just appear that way because they didn’t get to play small ball that year !!2017 Murphy wasn't anywhere near as strong as 2016 or 18. And yet they still made it to the 4th round, and beat that cardinal ***.

And what did MA have that year SPEED and lots of it!!!Then lost to Mount Airy in the 4th round, L 35-49
Didn't they beat the brakes off you that year? And what did MA have that year SPEED and lots of it!!!
I’ve played or watched Murphy since the 70s. They were down in 17. The 19 version is a ground and pound managing the clock and winning with defense. They are not as explosive as some years past, but it is a different version that has been in every game. Tonite reminded me of the MICS game a couple years back. Athletic QB have hurt us over the years with scramble and ad lib plays. Were they really down or did it just appear that way because they didn’t get to play small ball that year !!

Can I ask you and how many champions does your Cards have? What happened when you came to the hill ?Wow looks like if WSP had a defense with a pulse they would’ve won. Crazy what happens when a team with some speed pulls up on a mountain team!!
Murphy's offense was really good in 2017, the 2017 team was definitely not as good as those two teams on defense though. The biggest difference being Murphy was not nearly as strong on the lines in 2017, they were also much less physical than the 2016 and 2018 teams. Were they really down or did it just appear that way because they didn’t get to play small ball that year !!
The same thing that happened to Murphy the next week when they faced a team with speed at MA.Can I ask you and how many champions does your Cards have? What happened when you came to the hill ?
Down? Playing in Regional Finals was down? Where were the Cards that year? Oh wait .. they got smacked by that DOWN Bulldog team. Smacked so hard that the kids lost their cool and the coach lost his job. Just enjoy your team THIS year and quit trying to act like it is anything but this ONE year. Trust me, everyone will remember every asinine thing that you said from now on.Were they really down or did it just appear that way because they didn’t get to play small ball that year !!
And you enjoy avoiding the cardinals this year by being small because it would be UGLY if they played this year!!!Down? Playing in Regional Finals was down? Where were the Cards that year? North Stanly had just as much speed as Mount Airy overall. The difference was Holder at QB for MA, he's who really beat Murphy, he left Murphy with a pick your poison issue defensively. The other big thing was Murphy's o-line (and d-line) got worked most of night. That was the worst game Curry had at QB for Murphy, part him and part not having enough time. Like I said before, that was not a standard Murphy line. Full credit to the Mount Airy o-line and d-line though, they were underrated when people discuss that team, I saw film of the 2018 MA team and they weren't nearly as good up front as the 2017 MA team. The same thing that happened to Murphy the next week when they faced a team with speed at MA.
Most teams that have the speed to expose the mountains slow defenses do not have the physicality on their own defense to slow down the power run schemes that the mountain teams run. I agree the chances of you out pounding a mountain team in a brawl is not likely at all but having a good passing attack and SPEED on the EDGES is the way to beat a mountain team.North Stanly had just as much speed as Mount Airy overall. Yep you're right. I personally failed to count dozens of kids in our reported ADMs so we could avoid the vaunted traditional power East Surry. I honestly want to pull for you guys but a jackass like you has turned me into an anyone but East Surry fan.And you enjoy avoiding the cardinals this year by being small because it would be UGLY if they played this year!!!
Nobody is saying anything about East Surry being this traditional power except the mountain folk that can’t stand the thought that someone East of the damn Appalachian Mountains is the best team in western NC for a year. Teams rarely have the speed and size to really beat a mountain team handedly. However it does happen sometimes accept it and move on nobody is disputing your tradition just disputing your dominance this season!!!Yep you're right. AGREED!!Pulling for Mount Airy till they lose then East Surry, Always for the NWC
I definitely wouldnt call Murphy a power run team in 2017. Curry threw for well over 5,000 yards in high school and Murphy had a good group of recievers in 2017. Murphy definitely had good backs in 2017 but it was not remotely a great line. That 2017 team was too good of a passing team and too weak up front and lacked the physicality to be called a power run team. Most teams that have the speed to expose the mountains slow defenses do not have the physicality on their own defense to slow down the power run schemes that the mountain teams run. That's not exclusive to the mountains, those type of teams give most teams from any region fits, especially those that don't see a lot of good passing teams. I mean eastern teams with tons of speed typically struggle with that type of team because they don't routinely see it, just look at what teams like Reidsville and Shelby typically do to eastern teams in 2A.Then let me rephrase high powered passing attacks with speed on the edges give the mountain teams fits
As bad as I hate to agree with you, I’m gonna agree with you. To beat the traditional 1a/1aa powerhouses, you have to spread the field and throw the ball. Its just not what they see every week. If you’re proficient at it, which ES is this year, then you can win. So in my eyes you’re correct on what you’re spewing. Problem is you’re spewing to ‘ Mtn teams” that’s handed it to you for a long time. And will continue handing it to you in the future. If you win out and lose to tarboro then congrats, respect. Cards had a good year. But when you say “ you’re lucky you’re 1a”, then you’re pretty much calling out teams that’s handed it to you for a long time. Kinda puts you in ‘ One hit wonder category “.Then let me rephrase high powered passing attacks with speed on the edges give the mountain teams fits. Yes they can contain speed coming from the backfield because like y’all have said before they don’t run as fast once they get punched in the mouth. It’s far easier to contain speed that is lined up in the backfield than it is to funnel guys that line up wide inside where your physicality can actually get to them.
Any team that is not accustomed to the new passing schemes. Not just the mountains but it is much more prominent in the piedmont region than the mountains or the Far East of the state. Gives them fits when they can’t hit the speed because it revolves around finding one on one matchups and takes gang tackling and physicality away from those teams which is their bread and butter. As bad as I hate to agree with you, I’m gonna agree with you. As for ‘ speed kills”. That’s open for interpretation. I’ve seen a ton of slower more disciplined teams beat faster more athletic teams. And what did MA have that year SPEED and lots of it!!!
I’ll agree.Any team that is not accustomed to the new passing schemes. Not just the mountains but it is much more prominent in the piedmont region than the mountains or the Far East of the state. I agree if you can keep the speed in the middle of the field you can beat them up physically and they tend to slow down a lot. Teams that can get their speed into space on the edges is what separates an ordinary fast team from a team that is almost unstoppable. As for ‘ speed kills”. That’s open for interpretation. I’ve seen a ton of slower more disciplined teams beat faster more athletic teams.
It is gonna give most teams fits, but these teams like Murphy Robbinsville and Mitchell that run an offense that they will usually have the kids to be productive at it, will always have a better chance year in and year out. You only have a chance to do what ES is doing every once in a while.Any team that is not accustomed to the new passing schemes. Agreed but when you do get that crop of kids it’s a big mistake to stick to your traditional style offense when you can have a team like the one playing right now.It is gonna give most teams fits, but these teams like Murphy Robbinsville and Mitchell that run an offense that they will usually have the kids to be productive at it, will always have a better chance year in and year out. And congrats to them for that. If Mitchell can get by Polk and Swain, which isn’t gonna be easy. I look forward to the chance of trying to stop that offense. That’s why the kids play. And honestly I would be looking forward to seeing ES stop ours but that’s weeks away and there’s 2 formidable teams in the way.It is gonna give most teams fits, but these teams like Murphy Robbinsville and Mitchell that run an offense that they will usually have the kids to be productive at it, will always have a better chance year in and year out. I’m with you. Play the “ cards” you’re dealt. ( you saw that cards funny, right?)Agreed but when you do get that crop of kids it’s a big mistake to stick to your traditional style offense when you can have a team like the one playing right now.
I don’t think anyone has disputed your dominance this season.Nobody is saying anything about East Surry being this traditional power except the mountain folk that can’t stand the thought that someone East of the damn Appalachian Mountains is the best team in western NC for a year. I will say this, I live in a world where what you did yesterday much less year(s) ago don’t mean jack. WS Prep finished fourth in the NWC. East Surry and Mount Airy both beat them and ES flat out punk slapped them. Prep scoring that many against Murphy was very surprising. Prep has athletes as the Murphy folk now know. If they had a OL or DL then they go to the Hill and come home with a W. Murphy folks should consider themselves lucky that they didn’t get beat. That would have been as embarrassing as Avery beating East several years ago. Point I’m making is this, ALL teams have bad games and have strengths and weaknesses that gets exposed. Styles make fights. Stop with all the Mountain Football is the standard. Standard for who? Just y’all. The flatlanders as you call us, could care less about your standard.
And we COULDN'T care less about once in a blue moon teams that fade away as quickly as they arrived. The flatlanders (anyone who lives east of Black Mountain) as you call us, could care less about your standard.
I'd say Tarboro. They have brass at the 3a, 2a and 1a levels since the 80's. 5 or 6 championships.Good question: How many east teams, which I say is east of Charlotte, have tradition like mountain teams that haven't changed their school names or been combined in the last 30 years?
