GOW: York @ DGN: In my view, this is must win for both teams to get into the playoffs. York is already looking at a mountain to climb to make it. DGN has some more breathing room. I think momentum is on DGN's side, and I'll take them here: York 17 DGN 28

HC @ HS: South seems to be on a down year, despite having a really talented QB. HC's offense is getting settled around a big and talented QB, and HC's defense will have to find itself without a stud MLB. Still, HC rolls: HC 45 HS 6

OPRF @ Lyons: OPRF gets to put a hurt on LT after a really, really tough opening 2 weeks: OPRF 49 LT 14

PW @ GW: GW 52 PW 0

WSG GOW: DGS @ Willobrook: Great game on tap here. DGS coming back into the WSG conversation after a gritty week 1 performance against a great Wheaton North program, followed by a major cross conference win at York. But the Warriors will show that they're still the class of the gold this year: DGS 7 WB 17

All questions comments thoughts welcome.

PS---I didn't include your record if you didn't pick last week, but if you pick this week no worries--I'll just count the pick'em games from last week as losses as concession going forward (the DGS-York and OPRF-Willobrook games). Thanks everybody.

This will be an interesting week for the following teams:
York at DGN: DGN, and York will be nearly out of the playoff race
OPRF at LT: OPRF.

Not as interesting:
HC at HS: HC

Not interesting at all:
PW at GW: GW.

Willowbrook over DGS in a close one.

Hi Kitty!

York at DGN - I've said enough about York. I will also go with my pick to win WSS, that being DGN. I love the Dukes, but this won't be pretty since Yorks HC and DC simply dont listen or change. Plus, DGN has had this game circled since late October of last season.

CASSENS 42 - York 13 (and im taking the pass attempt over/under bet of 43.5 passes for York....Im taking the over....lol)

Hinsdale South @ Central

HC 27 - HS 12

OPRF @ LT - Is this an upset if LT wins? I think not.

LT 24 - OPRF 20

PW @ GBW

GBW JV 56 - PW 6

DGS @ Willowbrook - Again, if DGS beats WB, is it really an upset? I think its a perceived upset anyway and my upset pick of the week.

DGS 28 - WB 24

When was the last time DGN & DGS started 3 - 0?

DGN is a top 20 team btw...

@Grepos : 14-1. Yay!!! Now...on to week 3.

GOW: York @ DGN: York 17 DGN 14
I think this is a close game. Possible OT.

HC @ HS: HC 35 HS 12.
HS is not good this season

OPRF @ Lyons. OPRF 22 LT 14
After seeing OPRF last week, they look....ok. Not going to win by much

PW @ GW: GW 42 PW 0.
GW ground game will eat clock. Thus only getting to 42

WSG GOW: DGS @ Willobrook: DGS 12 WB 28

Of course I’m going with WB.
WB offense improving every week. Their D is flying around, only giving up 14 and 6 so far. DGS has a great young receiver, but will the QB have time? I don’t think so.

Thank you Kitty!

This is an intriguing week. Picks are not as easy as they seem on the surface.

In order of confidence...

GW over PW.

HC over HS.

WB over DGS. My guys in Columbia Blue and White prevail in this early deciding game in the Gold. Bonus pick, WB soph’s get it together for their first W of the season. Call me a homer...

LT over OPRF. Not having seen LT makes this tough, but seeing the licks laid on OPRF makes me worried about overall health for them. I’m hearing good things out of my guys in Western Springs and think that Coach Hartman wants this W as an early statement. Also need to pick some games against the grain to catch up to you fellas.

DGN over York. Sorry Dukes, but it’s another year watching in late October and December.

Good luck to all!

York by 9 over the Trojans. Coach Fitz is a good coach and will adjust and get the guys ready for their visit to DGN. I loved all the great things he did for Marist and he will be just fine without a doubt - Go Dukes!

I said that for 10 straight games...this week is the exception.

Over /under for pass attempts...i say 32...which might be 32 too many.

He never learns and im sorry to say that. Ill be there Friday. Feel free to message me. We're on the "same team" and i only pray my cynicism becomes unfounded.

OPRF at LT: Huskies really need this one; lose here and an eighth straight trip to the state playoffs becomes a distinct impossibility with HC and GW still remaining. I think Hoerster and his young guys finally turn the corner and notch a huge win. OPRF 28 LT 14

York at DGN: Trojans and Drew Cassens have nice momentum going after a 2-0 start. They'll make it 3-0 Friday night in a close one. DGN 21 York 14

PW at GW: Really, is there any doubt about this one? Hitters in a rout. GW 56 PW 6

HC at HS: A classic rivalry game. Hornets off to underwhelming 1-1 start. Being at home, I'd anticipate HS raising up its level of play. But the Red Devils are the better team and should pull away late. HC 35 HS 14

DGS at WB: Very impressed by Tumilty and the Warriors last week. They roll here against Mustangs. WB 34 DGS 14

OPRF steps up and dominates LT....LT is improved, but a desperate OPRF pulls together and routes.

York pulls together, cuts out the mistakes and pulls out the W. (4 touchdowns called back in the last two weeks could have drastically changed the outcomes)

GBW with a running clock

HC wins handily over HS

WB wins a close one over DGS

Fitz trusted his defense and it paid off - very well managed game by Max (#10) and with Patrick (#20) sidelined early, Conroy picked up the slack. Minimal penalties, minimal turnovers, some solid long drives and big plays by both teams - very entertaining game. But, my St Laurence Vikings lost to JCA the same way my York Dukes won (i.e., blocked FG with seconds left)! And with Marist losing and the Griffins winning big, I go 2 for 2 on the night!

Its taken 11 games for Fitzgerald to Coach a complete game. He managed his coaches and players like a good HC does. Thats a young HC who has learned. Great for the Dukes. 3-2 after GBW....York has the potential to be 6-3 in whats proving to be one of the best Public HS Conferences in the State....i said Public HS. The best "tough game" matchup for York is Hinsdale Central. The really match up well against them (sorry kitty).

Big Congrats to Yorks DLine Coach and especially the Special Teams Coach (who has more on his plate than any of us).

Thanks for sharing your Kool-aide tmjgrady! Well done fitz....!!

Plenty of Kool-aide to go around - I predict Lyons and PW are wins 3 and 4 - and to get to 5, I think their best odds would be vs OPRF, then WB and then HC - I'm assuming GW is going to be a long Saturday afternoon for the Dukes! My trip to Glen Ellyn will not be as enjoyable as my last trip there last year when LWE beat the Hitters by a few points!!!

Looks like York is getting its act together, and OPRF, too. I watched the HC/HS game, and did not see what I expected to see. GW in a few hours, then on to week 4!

GW has been substituting on both sides of the ball since the beginning of the second quarter, stopped running the no huddle offense, and been running between the tackles since half way through the second. Running clock in the second half, but GW scores again making it 59-0 at the end of the 3rd.

HC did not look sharp last night. Really hope next week versus OP wakes them up a bit. To be fair to the defense, they shifted a lot of guys around trying to figure out which package is gonna work best without their stud MLB, but boy is it a different defense without him.

Offensively i saw too much dancing around running the ball. The o-line is good, just not getting the horse power and not running as much option with QB1. Maybe they’ve been keeping their cards close on purpose. I hope so.

I was expecting to see more balance on offense. HS was able to shut down most of the running game, but HC didnt execute their passing game to any great extent. I thought HS was not very good on offense, but HC seemed unable to shut them done.i just expected them to be much sharper then they played. Next week should provide a clearer picture of them. But in the final analysis they got a win in week 3, and that is what counts today.

I was covering the Fenwick/Nazareth game last night, but by all accounts the OPRF offense finally got its' act together against LT. Nice to hear Jaden McGill throwing his first two TD passes of the season and running for another. The defense - which outside of a few big plays has actually been solid thus far - stepped up too and recorded a safety. The Huskies have a couple of young guys starting to make names for themselves - Eric Locke with 100+ yards receiving and Jake Birmingham continuing steady LB play. The game with HC could be very interesting next week; wouldn't be wise to count out OPRF yet in terms of the conference race.

On another note, little disappointed in DGN. It was a home game the Trojans had to have and they came up short. Also, gotta give York credit for stepping up.

Don’t get too excited about OPRF.. while they did win the game and have some athletes on O (QB & RB) they seem to be a young team that needs another year. Their HC is solid coach, but it’s not even close to last years team. HC loss to MLB is a blow as he’s a great athlete but how many games has he played in his HS career? They should be used to playing without and should have some guys who can step up. Too much early love for HC, DGN, and York. GW seems to be the class of the Silver once again. Gotta be able to run the ball and stop to run to make it deep in the playoffs. The teams that can do that with a balance passing game will do well.

After watching the DGN/York game again, i realized this game was a battle of the leeser of bad HC's.

There was talent everywhere on that field, and York won because its HC did less of a bad job coaching that DGN.

Should have reserved my comments before. Same crap...just less enough to win.

Unfortunately HC is not as deep at LB as one would have hoped for. But I think the 2 is well prepared and a decent athlete.
