WSS GOW: HC @ OPRF: HC offense is suspect (and it shouldn't be). But QB1 is a gamer. I think he makes sure HC finishes a couple drives and put points on the board. The D is sturdy and ready for McGill and co. I think they go into Oak Park and get the W: HC 20 OPRF 7

DGN @ PW: DGN 40 PW 6

LT @ York: The testimony you may have received about LT not looking shabby is reliable. LT looked sharped against OP. Hartman knows what plays to call and when to call them (dare I wonder whether I'm starting to miss him calling plays a few blocks down 55th?). LT will score points, but all the momentum is with York right now and this is a must win for them: LT 21 York 27

GW @ AT: GW running clock

WSG GOW: Willobrook @ Leyden: Willobrook just wrapped up a helluva first three weeks. I'm interested to see how they respond to playing a lesser level of comp. Shouldn't be any surprises though: The Willow Tree 34 Leyden 7

All questions comments thoughts welcome. Thanks everyone.

HC @ OPRF: OPRF actually has a Defense and has been on the field over 60% of the game, every game. HC has a very good defense with a great Defensive Backfield. OPRF has only a big-play potential. HC does have the ability to grind it out, and can wear-down a defense. OPRF at home, which most teams will state that "it sucks playing there". As much as I want to pick OPRF in thius game, HC has the edge.

HC 17 - OPRF 14

DGN @ PW:

DGN 49 - PW 0

LT @ York: I love the Dukes and almost everything about them. Hartman is one of those WSS Coaches that has feasted on Yorks Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator last year, and previous years. York is at home and should win this game. When the emotion of last weeks incredible football game against DGN wore off, it became apparent that York's HC and DC coached a less worse game than those of DGN. It wasn't genius, just less-worse. With all of that, I said that LT would pull off a major upset this season several times over the past couple of months. LT has one win vs Proviso East (read further), and two respectable losses. If Proviso East wins this week against Leyden, they will make the playoffs (yes...look at this...they will). If that happens, LT will have faced three playoff teams to start the season. York, coming off it's biggest win since....well...DGN last year, could easily be 0-3 winning two games by a total of 5 points and bad special teams by the Dukes Opponents. Two kicks for Duke opponents means an 0-3 start for the Dukes. Soooo, I'm typing too much because I'm having a real difficult time writing the following, but this is the Major Upset i spoke about for LT. Hartman is simply a better coach and is at LT to win. He's had the Dukes number for a long time, and that won't change. The Dukes had so much more talent last year than Hinsdale Central, but Hartman and bad York Coaching killed the Dukes. This is standard operating procedure for Hartman.

LT 27 - York 17

GW @ AT:

GW JV 56 - AT 0

Willobrook @ Leyden:

WB 28 - Leyden 0

Last, is/are there such things as Proviso East Spirit Wear? Pirates...correct? Would love to see this! I think I'll just pull out my big fluffy white pirate "shlouse" and eye patch and hit Maywood one of these Friday Eve's. Might even go to the football game as well!

Wanna join me Kitty?

Would really love to pick OPRF to knock off HC at home, but being a realist, I'll say Red Devils in a close one, 21-14.

LT at York: This one's a definite toss-up. On paper, York is at home and should win. But the Lions have been faring respectable so far with Dan Hartman as coach, and they have enough to pull out a good road win. LT 24, York 21

DGN 42, PW 6

GW 63, AT 7

WB 35, Leyden 14

This week we have 3 potential running clocks...

Glenbard West over Addison Trail
Willowbrook over Leyden
DGN over Proviso West

HC hasn't missed a beat from last years team, I think they win by a wider margin than last year..
27-13

York has been their own worst enemy getting bad penalties on big plays. If they can avoid that this week, I think they pull out another close win. York 20-LT 17

Glenbard West has out-scored their opponents 209-36 so far... and they let up 28 to MS. This is the most dominant a team has been in the WSS since...well...Glenbard West a few years ago, and most years for the last 10 years. Imagine if they didn't pull their starters after the first quarter in the last three games!

Biggest surprise this week, and it wasn't that big of a surprise...OPRF hanging tough with HC. I feel like a young OPRF squad is starting to gel. They will continue to get better each week as the young players get more comfortable and that will allow their stud players to really excel.

York pulled of a big win. LT is much improved over last year. QB's for LT played very well, very athletic hard runners, tough to take down and could throw the ball with accuracy. Big athletic receivers, and solid well coached D-line. York's D-line played their best game and had constant pressure on the LT QB's and forced some ill advised passes leading to two interceptions. On York's side, really controlled LOS and mixed up the play calling. Had some really nice performances by QB, a few WR's and #4 carrying the ball. Still need to work on punching the ball into the endzone. Two drives got inside LT 10 yard line without converting, and reception/fumble on the 1/2 yard line which lead to a touchback for LT.

Have to disagree.. was unimpressed with both teams play calling at York/LT. York continues to pass too much when it looks like they can run the ball up and down the field and LT running ball with QB and holding on too long to get out of their hands. I’m a believer in adjusting your offense to the the players you have on your team and make it simple...
I don’t recall who said it earlier but Proviso East looks like they can win 5 and make the playoffs.

That's a nice win for York. Seemed like the defense stepped up when it needed to.

OPRF is gradually getting better and had a couple of golden opportunities to score inside the HC red zone - once before halftime and the other midway in the fourth quarter - but penalties and other mental errors were costly as the Huskies had a pair of field goals blocked. Personally disagree with Hoerster on trying the field goal in the 4th when the Huskies needed a touchdown, and the bobbled snap spoiled the kick.

Hey Kitty, Contreras is a stud at WR for HC - was very impressed with him. HC also plays solid defense, but that offense needs to improve if the Red Devils want to win the conference.

I completely agree and have been saying it since week 2. Yorks HC will put a good team in perils if he continues to force the pass with an average qb. Use your assets...your best 1,350 pounds of assets.

Good luck playing that way against GBW.

For thr record...i said it about Proviso East...their schedule works for them and 5 wins.

No big surprises this week. I think the HC win sets them up for a very good season. OPRF has a lot of issues to work through and likely now building for a 2020 run. DGN remains the most interesting team in the conference and looks like they are prime for a nice playoff run, too. And York looks like they are ready for a trip to the grass field at GW.

GW used the last 3 weeks to really tune up both sides of the ball. Nice progress on O by building a more consistent pass attack, and the D is starting to really click. They are a multi-headed monster that has the capabilities to play a game on week 14.

On to week 5.

Looking like WSS is gonna have an exciting playoff race to stay tuned for. OP, York and DGN all have a chance to make the playoffs.

York’s path is hardest, as they’ll have to beat either GW, HC, The Willow Tree or OP.

OP needs to beat DGN and York, which I think is doable. Those should be great games.

DGN could in principle drop their next three to HC GW and OP, and then still get in by beating LT and DGS.

Best case for WSS pride would be DGN getting in while OP or York also sneak in. Unless my reasoning is off not all three can play week 10.

HC still figuring some stuff out which is not ideal but I thought it was a good win. Bryant gave them a lot of trouble but when the field shortened up the HC defense stepped up which is encouraging. Couple of the DBs have now made a handful of impact plays on special teams which is really encouraging. That stuff counts big in wk 10 and so on.

O-line has been consistent and when they put the 3rd year varsity LB at RB they look like a nice smash mouth offense. QB1 is a gamer and might outscore Whitelaw ‘08. As long as they average around 20pts they should be a tough out.

Looking forward to Cassens and co coming to Dickinson next Friday.
