listening to the radio and a guy mentions the millions of dollars being spent by working families because the teachers are in an illegal strike. He claims there is a possible legal suit that could be brought based on the financial harm being imposed on working families. I'm not sure who would bring it and who would be sued. Keep in mind, I believe teachers are still being paid right now because the schools are being closed.

I think the underlying thing is that working families are rapidly losing their patience with the teachers and the good will shown early on is disappearing.

The picket lines were a little thin this morning due to the weather no doubt. These teachers don't know what a real strike is like or what a real picket line is like. Take away their pay during this illegal strike and have them picket 24/7 and lets see how long this lasts. Hell I drove past a few picket lines going home from work and there were no teachers to be found - they have banker hours for their picketing.

Not at all. Not by a longshot.

The teachers are all at the Capitol now, moron. It is up to the State Senate. The House has passed the bill. The Senate is playing games.

And it's not an illegal strike. Superintendents have called off school every day, which is within their authority.

Don't so easily and openly display your ignorance.

And his comment about bankers hours was stupid too, teachers are picketing during school hours which end at 330, coal mines were open 24 hours which is what he is probably comparing them too since those pickets were manned 24 - 7. Not to mention every teacher pretty much has a "working family" You'd think the rights arms would get tired from patting themselves on the back.

So, take away the teacher's pay from days that will be made up at the end of the year? You are freaking clueless.

Don't argue with him about this. He only see it one way. He doesn't get that superintendents gave teachers these days off work, which means this technically is NOT a "strike".........and these days will be made up at the end of the school year (or spring break). They are just bitching because they don't have someone to babysit their kids for 8 hours.

I guess all those callers and media folks and people I talk to must be wrong about support waning for the illegal strike.

So all the teachers are in Charleston huh? That’s why I see then at various picket lines and events I go to through out the week - they must use some sort of teleportation right?

What a fucktard you are.

Oh that's a big no-no with parents. Thou shalt not mess with the school calendar even 6 months in advance. They plan on kids being here or there, and not having to pay a babysitter, stay out of work themselves, etc. You mess with their vacations then. WV teachers are not making friends, especially when they're out nothing.

Illegal teacher strike = soft as charmin. It’s a strike of convenience for them.

Yep people are bitching about vacation plans being disrupted and the loss of spring break probably hasn’t even entered their heads yet - people have made plans and now they’re screwed by the teachers.

While I agree that they need to consider ending this strike now. The behavior by some in our Senate is disappointing. Sen. Blair this morning, on the radio, actually said that if teachers are able to buy packed lunches for needy kids during the strike, then that is proof they don't need a raise.

Lol, I want my kids teachers to be paid enough so that the good ones stay in WV, guess I care more about my kids than my vacation. No one is getting screwed by the teachers because they are the ones getting screwed.

I think a lot of that food is from business donations and other individuals and not just teachers.

They’re paid 23 in the nation if you look at salary per pupil - what should be the target salary per pupil be?

We don’t go on spring break and vacation is in August. I’m just telling you what I hear on the radio and in the community.

You are worried about "vacation"? What about when schools miss snow days and they take spring break? Do you flip off mother nature?

That you can't tell the difference between weather and a choice by teachers with no skin of their back is telling.

BTW, I hate Mitch Carmichael (President of the Senate), but thankfully he is at least trying to be financially conscious on this.

It’s a f’ucking game he is playing. Anyone with common sense can see through it.

He took a vote on delaying the session the other day the first time the teachers showed up to the Senate session. He asked all in favor, didn’t give any time for anyone to respond, he then asked all opposed and again didn’t give anyone time to respond and banged the gavel and said the session was postponed until 6pm.

I see the difference........but the effects are the same. When parents make reservations for spring break, do they not do it in the months prior to March-April? So, they are not fully aware of what weather may do to alter those days.

Would that not encourage the "bad ones" to stay too? Being from a family of teachers, I do realize it is a low paying job. If you are doing it for money, you would probably be better off to invest school cost money in some product that will pay 5-7%. Then go to work waiting tables. You would probably be financially ahead for about 20-25 years. That sounds like a real ***** and untrue, but if you look at the time value of money invested, do the calculations yourself. There are tables in your finance books that would aid in calculation.
