WVU’s Kedrian Johnson has the 2nd-most steals among Big 12 players.
WVU’s Dimon Carrigan is 4th in blocked shots.
WVU’s Taz Sherman is 2nd in scoring. Sean McNeil is 10th .
WVU is 9-1 despite being LAST in scoring offense with 69.80 per game. It helps that they are 6th in scoring defense at 60.70 per game.
WVU is last in the Big 12 in free throw percentage.
WVU is last in defense’s field goal percentage.
WVU is 2nd in blocked shots.
WVU is last in rebounding margin.
But WVU is 3rd in season records among Big 12 teams at 9-1 so there’s a lot of silver lining, in particular that Carrigan and Johnson were not factors till this season.
Good new blood to go with Taz, Sean and Gabe.
Should be a brutal but fun Big 12 season and March Madness.

Huggs teams have always struggled from the free throw line but the rebounding is concerning. His teams usually lead in that category.

I've elaborated 1,000 times on the false stories of Huggins teams being bad foul shooting teams.

But this years rebounding is spot on horrific.
Well I’m not a stats guy but I watch every game WVU plays, football and basketball, and we have really sucked from the line the past few years. Maybe overall it hasn’t been so bad but I remember many games we shot less than 60%.

2007-2008 / 68.2%
2008-2009 / 69.6%
2009-2010 / 69.6%
2010-2011 / 70.6%
2011-2012 / 67.1%
2012-2013 / 69.5%
2013-2014 / 72.4%
2014-2015 / 66%
2015-2016 / 67%
2016-2017 / 67.8%
2017-2018 / 76.6% (highest all time for a WVU season)
2018-2019 / 68.3%
2019-2020 / 64.2%
2020-2021 / 71.7%
2021-2022 / 61.2% (currently our worst ever)

According to national averages WVU has had 2 horrible seasons.

The NCAA average free throw shooting percentage has been constant at roughly 69 percent. Even though there are no statistics for all high schools throughout the country, it's believed to be between 55-60 percent.

When you practice try not to shoot for percentage. Shoot for makes and replicate your motion until it's unconsciously competent.
