Thanks Vernon. We share our concerns about Dana but that video makes me really happy for the seniors. They came with hopes of a national championship and they did not deserve another demoralized loss.
Here is my struggle. I'm sure many share it. At my son's high school, he started as a sophomore and had a miserable sophomore and junior year. They lost multiple close games due to poor clock management and late play calling. They beat a really good team the last game of the season his junior but the admin did the best thing and the overall record led to the coach getting fired. I felt so sorry for the kids in the class ahead of him because they only won 6 total games in three years. If the admin would have kept the old coach due to the last win, I'm sure my son's senior year would have been worse because they had far less talent than previous years. The new coach did an amazing job and coached them up to a winning season which was the best year the program had in a decade. My son now plays in college which never would have happened apart from the coaching change.
I feel like wvu is in the same boat. You never want to wish a bad year on any group of seniors, but there are 60 other underclassmen who need coached up and want better than mediocrities. Some want a shot at the nfl. Looking back, I'm glad my son's junior year was a disaster or his senior year would not have been any better. There's this tension of wanting what's best for today and what's best for tomorrow and the two don't always align.
I'm not sure in which category to place last night's win. It's probably a non factor but to me, anything less than 8-4 next year is a step back. I hope a win against the what will now be a 6-7 team with a bottom 5 pass defense doesn't bolster Dana's leverage for an extension with more guaranteed money. Give him an extension for recruiting purposes, but don't guarantee any more money apart from results on the field. Do you agree?
