For some reason despite moving the school, changing the boundaries and changing the name, the Wheaton faithful are holding on to that past like a buggy whip. It’s really a head scratcher.
Its funny pretty much every school in the state has done what WWS has but every time the win subject comes up people hate on them but nobody questions how many titles JCA has? Or do Loyola’s wins pre merger in 1994 count? You can hate on WWS all you want but please hate on every other school that does it to.
The Wheaton-Warrenville High School Wolverines were around from 1973 to 1983. The high school building is the current building that WWS occupies. Most of the students in the WW boundary were absorbed into Wheaton Central. Landlocked Wheaton Central eventually moved to the larger WW campus (which was being used as a middle school), and the middle school took over the Wheaton Central facility. The Tigers were a very average program from 1969 to 1986. Bolstered with the massive residential growth in south Wheaton (Danada area) and Warrenville in the 1980's, WWS's football fortunes took off. If Wheaton Warrenville had not closed and Central had stayed put, the Wolverines would have been the powerhouse and the Tigers would have been mediocre. John Thorne (a great coach) was only 38-34 his first eight years at Wheaton Central. Once he had the south Wheaton/ Warrenville talent, the program exploded.
The wins from Warrenville should just be tacked on since we are all operating in Fantasyland.
