Still if I remember correctly the last three commits have been two two star jucos and a no star. Lucky that Coach Stoops seems to be holding on to the commits he got over the summer after a disappointing season.
Well Pringle is a big Dude and will back up Elam. He is better than Hyde so that upgrades the team. Johnson is better than a 2 star talent wise. This staff picked him over 16 other juco qbs including former 4 star Justice hansen.

I never watch the film of recruits outside of Stephen Johnson II that was my first in a long time. I do not know enough to make a real evaluation and I am assuming that holds true for at least 90% of the fans on here. Although I am sure few of them are willing to admit that. I stopped watching film after watching the great Hunter McClintock debate a few years ago, he looked GREAT on film too. I leave it to the coaches and those few posters who actually know something about this.
BRAVO! I appreciate that honesty. FWIW, I tend to look at film only from an occasional curiosity standpoint. Why? Well, because these 5 minute film clips are HIGHLIGHT films. Way back in the day I suppose I too could have had a 5 minute highlight film. [roll]

If you are "evaluating" 2,000 players nationally as does Rivals you are first faced with establishing common standards for comparisons (i.e., ratings) among players. I'm just not sure how they can do that as, notwithstanding camp participation by some players, they are reviewing and evaluating based upon such highlight films. OTOH, while coaches may use highlight film as an initial screening device, I can assure they look at much more than highlight film. And that is one of the reasons why I place as much value on "offers" as I do "ratings".

However, 11th hour offers are always dictated by the recruiting circumstances at the time. Unless benefiting from a late flip, 11th hour recruiting is almost always about filling a recruiting opening with the best remaining option...which is seldom a "solid" recruit if viewed from a September perspective.

I have no idea about how good is Johnson (but his offer list is "weak"). However, I do know that UK desperately needed at least 1 more QB on the 2016 roster and Johnson was most likely their best option at this point. So that, in and of itself, makes it a good get regardless of "how good" is Johnson.

I watched the highlight clip of Carter posted in this thread and did just a tiny bit of research. The one thing you see about Carter is good defensive foot speed. But what we don't know is who he is playing against. Whitefield is Christian based pre-K to HS private school of ~800 students total, about 250 in the 9-12 HS. HS tuition is about $21K/year. Their football team was 2-8 in 2015 and appeared to play a schedule of similar type schools. I have no idea of what class they may play in as far as GA HS athletics go but I would have to assume either the smallest (or possibly "independent"). I would make a guess here that his school kept him under the radar.

Peace

NFL rosters are proof positive that numerous players fall through the cracks during evaluations, OR development of players and work ethic play a big part in how successful a player CAN become.

I want our staff to get the players that fall through the cracks!! It's the only way we are ever going to compete ion the SEC ranking in the bottom 4 in recruiting.

This more than anything, is why I'm a little leary of these last few commits. It seems like that's all we can get as opposed to these guys being great players.
Well with Johnson, yes, he was considered the best available at the late timing we started recruiting another QB.

And yes, we're not on the lists of the remaining 4 & 5* DL out there. As for them being great players or not, we'll just have to see. But odds favor the higher rated ones.

We are getting good players. Elam Meant Middleton Dubose is a very nice group of dlineman. It takes time to develope those inside guys Middleton RS sophomore Dubose RS Sophomore Meant RS junior and Elam Jr are good players this is the year they will have enough strength and conditioning for talent to take over. As good a player as CJ was he could not out perform Meant in practice. Meant will be a household name the next two years.
AGree. WE're never going to be in a position to land 2-deep depth of that kind of talent on D-line. Going to have to take a play from Missouri and develop serious depth we can throw at teams from that position over the course of a few years. Some of that depth/talent will eventually shake out and the rest is gravy.

Prior to UK commitment, TJ Carter had not been evaluated- assigned a "star" status. 3 star within 24 hours. Remember many factors involved

I don't think that no star is correct, they are really saying he hasn't been evaluated, and since ESPN says he is our 11th best commit I love getting him at this late date. I don't gain a lot from the "highlight" films, but I liked what I saw in his.

uga was looking at him. they obviously didn't offer but they get a hell of alot of talent at the dl/de spots so "no offer" doesn't mean "no talent". they had reason to go take a look see and they do have the #10 guy nationally at that position signed.

Just read where 247 has given TJ Carter an 81 ranking. That's a low 3 star. His composite ranking is slightly better than 83. It will be interesting to see where Rivals ranks him.

Here is a link to his 247 profile in case anybody wants to check it out...

Roberts blurb on Rivals and 247 ratings.
http://ukrecruiting.bloginky.com/2016/01/31/rivals-247sports-rank-new-uk-football-commitment/

New UK football commitment T.J. Carter earned star rankings from Rivals.com and 247Sports over the weekend.

Carter — a 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive end from Mableton, Ga. — was not ranked by any of the major recruiting services at the time of his commitment to Kentucky on Thursday.

247Sports now ranks Carter as a three-star player and the No. 82 strongside defensive end in the class of 2016. Rivals.com ranks Carter as a two-star recruit, and his “5.4” grade from that website is the same as early enrollees Stephen Johnson II and Naquez Pringle.

Carter’s new Rivals ranking does not affect UK’s standing in the national class rankings for 2016. The Cats’ 25-man class is
ranked No. 21 nationally and ninth in the SEC.

ESPN
ranked Carter as a three-star prospect Friday. Scout.com has not yet given him a star ranking.
