Brian Cole has committed!! Will most likely redshirt this year unless granted a hardship waiver. Will have 3 years of eligibility left! Big pickup!
Pretty sure UK is on the NCAA's "no hardship waiver, ever, under any circumstances" list.
We seem to be on a lot of their lists(the s&it list for sure)Pretty sure UK is on the NCAA's "no hardship waiver, ever, under any circumstances" list.
It kind of looks that way, they do know it's not basketball, don't they?Pretty sure UK is on the NCAA's "no hardship waiver, ever, under any circumstances" list.
Very very nice. Wish he didn't have to sit but it is what it is... I'm thinking 17 we make a big push
Why bring up BC in the context of MJ's issues? Tell us all you know to even imply a comparison. Thanks.Awesome! We could use him as a 6-2 200 4.4 WR or a headhunting safety. Let's just hope he doesn't go down Marcelys Jones' path and ruin a second chance. We aren't like Unlimited Chance U, 64 miles west.
Don't see comparison between Jones and Cole, or between Cole and UL players. Why not compare Cole to Courtney Love and Greg Hart? Stoops is getting a lot of transfers from Big 10 programs. My suspicion is this has been in the works for a while, and explains why Stoops took 3 corners but no safeties in our 2016 recruiting class.Awesome! He has to sit but get's three years, but could get a medical redshirt at the end.
Is he going to be able to practice this spring? I think it's too late to enroll for this semester.
I would guess the chances for a hardship waiver are probably zero but either way he looks like a fantastic pickup for the future.
Cole was released from his scholly because he broke team rules several times and Harbaugh is a no nonsense coach according to UM boards. Jones was released from two different schools so all I was saying was I hope he doesn't turn out similarly. Jones may end up at UL if he ever gets a felony charge.Don't see comparison between Jones and Cole, or between Cole and UL players. Why not compare Cole to Courtney Love and Greg Hart? A medical redshirt to do what? Can't see he could possibly get more than three year of eligibility as he has already played one. Do you mean six to play four years? Didn't the NCAA already change the rule re hardship waivers to allow six to play four?
I got a different understanding about Gilliam. On signing day, Stoops discussed Gilliam as a nickel and a special teams player. Safety was not mentioned by Stoops or Eliot. Every other reference I can find refers to Gilliam as a cornerback prospect. Nebraska, Pitt, and W. Virginia offered Gilliam as a corner. Gilliam is big enough to play safety if the coaches decide to develop him that way, but he is noted for having flexible hips and cover skills of a corner. With Quinn, Tiller, and Hytchye gone, and Harmon and McClain becoming seniors, Stoops may be reloading corners and nickels. He has only McWilson, Edwards, West, and Walker at safety. Cole won't be eligible until after his transfer redshirt.Good post, but I do want to point out that according to the UK coaches, Gilliam was recruited as a safety (although they said they that he may play some Nickel).
Landing Cole is some really good news
i think he just got passed up on O so that was why he moved to S. supposedly he was blowing people up in the run up to their bowl game and was expected to be a major contributor on D this year.As a 2015 player that played one year he has 4 more years to play three.
However he played early in only 3 games I believe last season. It's not clear if he was benched due to disciplinary action or an injury. If an injury he could apply for a an extra year after his normal eligibility is up (medical redhshirt) which would make it a total of 4 years.
This has nothing to do with the hardship rule which changed. the hardship rule allowed players to play immediately after a transfer if due to a personal hardship. That rule changed which makes this all but impossible now.

You might be right but I'm hoping and praying that we at least go to a bowl game next year2017 is the year this program takes off imo. been telling people that for 2 years now.
I thought I had a different recollection but I will gladly take your word for this. I don't have any concerns about Gilliam's physical size and other attributes to play at safety. He could handle it if he is the kind of kid who can get low and absorb hits on every snap. But Nebraska, Pitt, and West Virginia apparently recruited him as a corner because of his cover skills. I clearly remember a Kentucky coach saying Gilliam will start out as a nickel and ST player. I thought it was Stoops, but maybe it was Eliot or Marrow. There is no question that we are a little things now at safety. The only thing I can find in Stoops presser regarding the DB's was about Robinson and Griffin where he said "Him (Davonte) and Jordan Griffin, I think it's so important to get those corners, those talented guys. Everybody comes after them and battles for those corners till the very last second." He didn't mention Gilliam when referencing the corners.
In Ansley's interview he said it was like they signed more than 3 DB's as Gilliam can play Nickel and inside (meaning both safety positions) so it was like they had guys that could play all 5 positions.
Gilliam will likely settle in at Strong Safety.
It was Ansley who said he is a nickel type. Ansley compared him to Blake mclain. Ansley also said signing him was like signing 3 guys. Gilliam can play nickel or either safety spot. Ansley did say Gilliam would start out at nickel.I thought I had a different recollection but I will gladly take your word for this.
