UL will compete BECAUSE they have Petrino. I hate that summabich and the majority of their fan base/trolls, but Petrino was, is and will always be a good coach for football. To deny that is petty.
I caution even our own fans when it comes to recruiting rankings...the lowest rated recruits for the Class of 2015 for Louisville were JUCO TE Cole Hikutini (5.3), WR Trey Smith (5.4) and FROSH WR Jaylen Smith (5.4). There were four or five 5.5 players according to Rivals and they included JUCO DT Drew Bailey, JUCO OG Kiola Mahoni and FROSH OT Kenny Thomas. Of all of those players only Trey Smith didn't play this year as a redshirt, Jaylen Smith started the entire year at WR, Hikutini likely would have been a full-time starter if not for a shoulder injury against Auburn that shelved him until what I believe was the NC State game (and Hikutini was part of a very good three TE rotation by years end with Towbridge and r-Fr Mickey Crum) and Kenny Thomas started as a true freshman at an OT until an injury in early November that kept him out for the remainder of the season (I believe it was a shoulder injury). Mahoni became the starter at RG for the Kentucky game and you can judge for yourself how he did based on that film; he more than answered the bell against a very good Texas A&M interior.
So in summary, the six lowest rated recruits according to Rivals had one player who didn't contribute; I'd submit in Bailey's case that the one thing that kept him from being a starter was the fact that Sheldon Rankins was manning his position and we're seeing based on reports coming out of the East/West Shrine game preparations that Sheldon may be playing himself into First Round Draft Status. Bailey played pretty well when he saw the field.
Not to mention not even Louisville or Kentucky related Khalil Mack and JJ Watt arguably the two best defenders in Pro Football were barely 2* players coming out of HS...On the Senior Bowl Sheldon Rankins and EKU Noah Spence are making themselves a lot of $$$...would not be surprised if Rankins doesn't get past Chicago @ 14th overall...from CBS Sports:
MOBILE, Alabama -- No matter the drill the South Team's defensive line dominated during Senior Bowl practice Wednesday. And Louisville defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins, Clemson defensive tackle D.J. Reader and Eastern Kentucky defensive end Noah Spence were the main disruptors.
Rankins (6-foot-2, 305 pounds) was nearly unblockable during one-on-one drills due to his quickness off the whistle and powerful arms to drive blockers backward. He used a variety of hand moves to swat jabs and swim past the blocker's shoulder. Rankins also impressed during 11-on-11 reps due to his ball awareness, and his ability to read, detach himself from the block and make plays in the backfield. He entered this week with first-round grades and he is only helping himself here.
An impressive mover for his size, Reader (6-3, 340) looked balanced and carried his weight well during drills. He showed the lower-body flexibility to play low and win the leverage battle as he shot upfield and Kansas State guard Cody Whitehair (6-4, 300), who is the top offensive line prospect in Mobile, was the only South lineman who had much success against Reader. Reader missed the first half of the season due to some “personal issues” and NFL teams will be doing a lot of homework on the reasons he felt like he needed to be away from Clemson.
And the player who had arguably the best day overall was Spence (6-3, 254). None of the offensive tackles had an answer for his edge quickness. He was sudden off the snap with the get-off speed to breeze past blockers, winning the corner and flattening to the pocket. Even Le'Raven Clark, who boasts massive arms (36 1/4 inches) and wingspan (86) and has done a nice job this week, couldn't hang with Spence's quickness around the edge. The former Ohio State and Eastern Kentucky pass rusher entered the week as the top prospect overall on my top-50 draft board and he has lived up to that high-billing.

I'd just like to say that if UK or UL fans are ever touting a LB recruit with 5.5 speed, they have disqualified themselves to talk much about FB. My son had a 5.0 at OG/DT. You don't even get a 2nd look at LB with 5.5 unless we are talking a 55 yard or greater dash.funny i just went over there and they have a lb'er with 5.5 speed that they all were touting but yet kash is a lb'er with 5.5 speed and he's totally overrated. he was smaller though. LOL
im not saying UK fans are not guilty of over inflating our commits but dang ul fans are the kings of down playing our commits. i swear i cant remember more than maybe a couple kids i thought ul "oversigned" but they list 90% of our class as such every year.
take jackson off ul's team and let boom and jojo play the whole game and who honestly thinks ul is superior in most positions? good thing is they are gonna see how good elam, kash, drake, and young are in the next 2 to 5 years. so we can see if everything is absolute as some of their posters think.
It is embarrassing to see that. Also embarrassing that you think that some defense for other bad behavior. How many times was this posted on a UL board when Rick flipped off UK fans in Rupp this year? Wrong is wrong.
