So silly how this makes one feel important. Not a dig, I do it myself.
It's not that it makes me feel important at all. It makes the moment (which happened before I was even born) feel more important to me because I can only imagine the excitement some of my family felt watching it live.

Perfectly articulated. Thanks.

So I was going to say one play people like Garritty catching the bomb but it was for a day.

we have a match play going on and a guy was 3 up with 4 holes to go. The other guy won the next 3 holes. On the 18th, par 3 over water about 190, the guy who was 3 up originally had a hole in one.
won the match.
Now that would be nice!!

Same thing happened at my club a few months ago. Guy's 2 up on 17 tee (par 3) and hits it in the hole. Competitor never hit a shot. 3 and 1.

that is an exclamation point!
I won the match play a couple of years ago and closed several guys out on 18. One was 6 inches from the hole. But a hole in one. Man. You just stand there as the other guy and say WTF do I need to do to beat this guy.

You get to be a sports person on one day in sports history, who are you choosing to be? Don Larsen throwing a perfect game? Sandy Koufax or Nolan Ryan being unhittable? Wilt when he scored 100 points? Jordan hitting the game winner against Utah? Maz hitting a walk-off home run in Game seven of the '60 World Series? Johnny MIller shooting 63 at Oakmont? Ron Turcotte riding Secretariat at the Belmont? Jim Craig in net against the Russians?

I think I'd go with Jack Nicklaus final round at the '86 Masters. My next choice might be to be Reggie Jackson and hit three home runs on three swings in the World Series against the Dodgers.

Oct, 1, 1961. Maris hits his 61st HR. Then afterward go to Piasano's across the street. They make a mean calzone.

RE: Ron Turcotte. I don't have a single sports autograph or signed anything - other than my Dad's old Giants stuff. I do have this photo signed though, and it's one of my favorite photos. I love how he would sign it on the rail.

Since it's a PSU board and I was a student in the early 80's, I can think of three days when it would have been pretty good to be Todd Blackledge:
1981 - Pittsburgh - 48-14
1982 - Nebraska - 27-24
1983 - Georgia - 27-23 (1982 season, but the game was played in 1983)

You forgot something...

I saw the girl he was spending most of his time with while at PSU pre-Judy. Let's just say he was doing just fine, and he seemed to have an affinity for hot blondes, at least at the time.

I'd go with Maz.

Three reasons...

I'm from the Burgh.
It wrapped up one of the largest Series upsets in history, and was one of the first really great sports TV moments.
I'm related to him on my mom's side thru marriage.

I love the iconic picture of people celebrating this, from hundreds of feet above… on a balcony on The Cathedral of Learning!

Sired over 600... maybe that would seem like work after a while.
There is a theory I'd be willing to test.
Reminds me of a story about when President and Mrs Coolidge visited a chicken farm. They were given separate tours. The guide tells Mrs C that this particular rooster does his business twenty times a day.

“Twenty times a day? Please tell that to the President.”

When the President comes around to the rooster the guide says, “Mrs Coolidge asked me to tell you that this rooster does it twenty times a day.”
“Same hen every time?”
“No, different hen every time.”
“Please tell that to Mrs Coolidge.”

One of the owners of the ABA Spirit of St Louis where part of the agreement to not be part of the NBA merger was a % of the TV money of the NBA in perpetuity. They were paid millions ($800 million if I recall) for doing nothing until they settled with the NBA in 2014.
