I think that there are 15-20 teams out there that can play us for 30-35 minutes, and then boom we spurt out to a 10-15 point lead, and the game is over. It doesn't matter which team you put in front of us. I fear crooked refs as much or more than the teams.

What do you think?

Refs are powerful and worthy of our fear. Were they always this bad? Did they skate because we didn't have high def, slo mo, and stop action?

It blows my mind how 20,000 people can see an obvious violation and instantly call it out, but the 3 guys that are paid to see it, don't see it. Don't see how that can be chance.

Yep, the refs. For some reason, the tight whistle always seems to affect us more than the opponent. I can never quite figure it out???

Don, I agree with you 100 %. It is virtually impossible not to have at least a few refs on the take. A few quick fouls at the first of the game changes everything.

Not only do I think they have always been bad but maybe even worse. Years ago you could black ball a ref from working your team's games. I don't know if you can still do that or not.

When I went to UK the most hated referee was Max Macon. I think Adolph Rupp black balled him. Max Macon was so biased against Kentucky he didn't try to hide it.

The best referee in those days was George Conley, the father of Larry Conley but he was not allowed to referee UK games.

I've thought for some time that once we reach the round of 32, on a given day, any one of the teams can beat any one of the other's in a single game. It's what makes being a fan of a UK team like this so maddening. We've all seen those games over the years where the underdog keeps it close, and then the favorite ends up choking at clutch time. It's the biggest reason I'd liked seeing UK challenged this year in some of the SEC games. It's good they've been through that, and came out on top.

Let's say UK plays say Purdue in the 1 vs 8/9 game. Any objective person looking at the data available from this season would say UK is clearly the better team, and should win decisively. They should. But Purdue could, on that day for any number of reasons. And at least as has always been widely thought the longer the underdog has a lead, or stays in the game the more the pressure builds on the favorite. They can get tentative while the other guy jacks up a 25 footer with 2 guys on him, and it goes in. Because they feel no pressure, they're supposed to lose. Last year's run for UK was a kind of an anomaly for us because we got to be the underdogs. Who knows perhaps that's one of the reason's Aaron hit those shots.

I don't at all believe in the crooked refs conspiracy theory. What I do believe is the NCAA overall suffers from poor officiating, and yes it that sense it to can affect games. One of the problems is they have to have so many refs the quality suffers. Hopefully they manage to pluck a few of the better one's around the country to do the tournament games.

Excellent post. Agree 100%….though I think Purdue might be stretching it a bit against this team.

Yea, that's probably a bit high for them. I just went with the first Midwestern type underdog that came to mind. I've had tremendous confidence in this year's UK team, but in the NCAA I know I'm going to be nervous as heck. I want to see them get a 20 point lead on every team in the 1st half lol. Somehow I'm doubting that happens. I'll settle for a 3 possession lead if the Cat's are alright with that.

I'm more of a cautiously-optimistic fan. I reserve a little nervousness before (any) games, especially in tournament time. Simply for the fact that Wall's team lost to WVU in '10 by going cold from the 3 that day. I've seen the best teams go cold and watched the less-talented (read UConn) team move forward - usually to lose the next game. I love my cats, but I've also seen some strange things happen.

For the most part, I would agree. Certainly with this team more than any other.

I really believe this team's greatest asset is also (at times) it's greatest adversary...themselves.

I truly believe that most of their close calls was attributed to our guys not taking the players of certain teams seriously. Think about it Columbia? Does anyone believe that Columbia is as good as Kansas, Texas, Louisville or UNC? And yet we only scored 56 against them. We should have laid 90+ on them. What about our close calls with Ole Miss, Texas A&M and LSU? It seems like in a lot of these games, our guys are fighting boredom as much as anything.

But yeah the refs are a huge concern as well.

In a few games this year I have felt that the bookies in Vegas had gotten to a few of them. We run the table we get in their pockets, maybe..

I guess I am a little partial toward the officials because I have some experience officiating high school basketball Guys, it is a hard sport to officiate, especially now where the players are so big and quick. We fans have the luxury of taking our time to make up our mind and seeing it replayed several times, but the refs have a split second on most calls.

Those last second calls that can determine the winners are awful hard to swallow for the losing team.. Unlike baseball where strike 1 and 2 still leaves you a chance to recover. In basket ball its final. The only answer I have is that you don't want to be in a position where 1 call can beat you..

Tjhe more I read these post about the refs, the more I'm inclined to believe they are just excuses you make in advance. I have been a spectator setting between two fans and watch them disagree about the call. Oh yes, I have seen some calls that were missed {in my opinion], but the majority of the time the refs are correct.

I've heard numerous fans say the refs should not make a call or no-call on last second shots. Folks that is just not in the rules book. The game is supposed to be called the same in last minute as the first.

I didn't intend for this to be a refree clinic and I'm not qualified anyway, but just tired of hearing fans of their favorite team complain about the refs beating us if we lost the game .Peace

While you are exactly right see my oat below this is why the coaches should be allowed to challenge especially in a one and done tourney game, I know refs are human I tried my hand at it once and its difficult if not impossible to get it right.
