Yes!

I'm actually purchasing a Lodge frying pan, made in Tennessee, with an evil Vols logo on the bottom for a family member.

Please hate on me later. TIA.

I think it would be great if communities banded together and collectively burned down the first business to display Christmas decor prior to Veteran's Day.

It says here the retail industry does 50% of its business between December 1st and December 25th. That's half a year's business in one month's time. It seems to me, an intelligent country would legislate a second such gift giving holiday. Create, say, a Christmas 2, late May, early June, to further stimulate growth.

I love Christmas, love everything about it. Love fires, the music, seeing family and friends.. love all of it.

..but this is far too early.

I've always wondered if they figure the returns in that. If Wal-Mart does 50m in sales, at least 10m has to be returned.

I don't know if those numbers are correct or not. I just remembered a quote from the movie Reindeer Games where Danny Trejo is looking at a financial magazine (I believe that is what it was) and makes this comment after reading that. I don't know if anyone else remembered that part or not.

To answer your question about returns. I don't think that factors in very much because most people probably don't have the gift receipt and still have to purchase something else with store credit.

I did buy just one xmas gift. Simply because it was convenient to do so. Wifey, step-daughter and I are headed to Pacific Northwest next week. We all enjoy hiking, and usually step-daughter borrows hiking boots from her mom. We’re planning on exploring around Mount Rainier and Olympic National Park. Since the young’un didn’t have her own boots we bought her a pair as an early xmas gift.

The rest of the xmas shopping will take place in December.

Yep Christmas shopping is done for the entire family. Easy to do when you go on a NYE cruise. Starting tomorrow getting all the decorations together and will have my son up on the roof in about a month to get that done. Takes awhile to put up a large Christmas display and alot easier to get the high ground stuff and large items up when it is warm and not freezing.
