He had 5 years starting experience at South Dakota or something like that. I suppose he will be granted another year and will return to Iowa.
Wait, they went out and got a guy that is that bad at playing QB to be their QB and it was intentional?

Why do iowa fans love their coach so much???

He led South Dakota state to a couple of national championships. During fridays game they said he has more wins than any QB over before in college. I sure wouldn’t say he is bad, he just didn’t do much more for Iowa than their previous QBs.

What he did was give them another extension of their offense that they happened had being 6-3 230 they were tough to stop inside a yard or two.

Still lost 4 games with him and now where they going to find another portal QB that ‘s had 5 years of experience.

I thought a year previous he would be a good portal guy for us. Boy was I wrong about that.

was their offense better with him? Yes. Did it make a difference in how the season ended up for them? No. I mean with a lesser QB they probably would have lost to Michigan State but still wasn’t a big difference maker

Penn St come to mind besides Sparty.
Another QB wouldn’t have come back beating them.

Once again, iowa fans freely admitting that all the care about it beating NU. Literally no demands for more wins, better coaching, nothing. Happy once again, to just have that one magical win.

You talk all this sh*t about Iowa fans not demanding more, but Nebraska’s “sellout streak” has continued for 23 miserable years. Hell, you added seats to your stadium in that time. Which fan base loves mediocrity again?

He did drive down to take the lead late against Indiana & Oregon and tied it late with ISU. Game winning drives against Penn St., MSU, Rutgers. Ironically, it was more of the defense not finishing the job in their losses. I suspect they will go with RSSoph Jeremy Hecklinski next year, a former top 25 qb and Georgia player of the year in class 5A.

There is no 3rd sport.
It is just FB and mens BB.
I look at if a sport is a money maker for their university? At Iowa…women’s hoops is a money-maker. Then I look at the overall national interest of a sport. Women’s hoops still has a decent national appeal.

Not that it matters… Or is any of our business… But are we really sure about that? I’m just glad she was out when Indiana knocked my beloved Atlanta dream out of the playoff this year. I never would heard the end of it getting my team taken out by another Hawkeye.
Well, she still dates former Hawkeye Connor McCaffrey. 🥴

OK. Also not true. But the clown I replied to claimed Farentz has won more games at Memorial stadium than Matt Rhule, which is ridiculous.
Kirk Ferentz has won more games in Memorial Stadium than Matt Rhule, Scott Frost, or Mike Riley. Look it up.

1995 the Big 8 had for teams that finished in the top 10.
#1 Nebraska
#5 Colorado
#7 Kansas St
#9 Kansas

When did the Big 10 have 4 teams finish the season with 4 teams rated in the top 10 without counting on Penn St.

Nebraska beat 4 teams in the top 10 and the 1995 team is considered one of the best teams in the history of college football.
One season does not a trend make for overall Nebraska wins vs many, many patsies.

I think the tone has shifted in Iowa. A few years ago they wanted him gone. We can do better than this guy they said. He’s an overpaid, middle of the road coach. Now I think they’re terrified he will retire. They’re about to go the way of Wisconsin and get some high flying hot shot young dude in there.
Did I miss something…is Ferentz leaving Iowa soon? By “soon”, I mean like in the next 3 or 4 years?

This is so accurate. They would rather scrape by as a lame program with no chance to ever do anything instead of taking a chance. Even as they see what Indiana is doing, they still won't try.
Iowa doesn’t have Indiana’s NIL $.

What was the Brian Ferentz fiasco?
First, having a close relative on staff. Secondly, promoting him to a position (offensive coordinator) that he wasn’t ready for. He would have been okay remaining as the o-line coach.

Come on, dude. You’re gonna have to throw for more than 100 yards game to sniff out any playoffs. Stay in your lane and hope it doesn’t get any worse.
With Iowa’s relatively new offensive coordinator, the passing game will improve. Iowa is consistently a good running team.

Good question!

I think for one, he doesn't suffer fools. Dude hires coaches and they do a good job or they are done.

He also seems to not only want to win but to dominate unlike some coaches who just try to get the game over with as quickly as possible.

Also, has a large NIL budget. 🥴

WTF? Your quarterback willed your team to those eight wins. He can’t pass for shitp, but he can move the chains. The majority of your skill players are pure trash. The announcers during the game said as much. A better quarterback away???? You cannot be serious
Granted…Gronowski wasn’t the passer that I expected, but he impressed bed throughout the season. In the Nebby game he had some decent mid-range and TD passes. Iowa also traditionally passes more to tight end than many teams. The tight end room looks bright for the future. Playing in the Midwest with often crappy weather, it’s probably better to build an offense on the run and short passing game.

lol…you hadn’t watched Iowa the past few years. QB play was atrocious. The last decent one was Nate Stanley.

Oh man I forgot they were together. I was in the Indy airport last week and was so close to pulling the trigger on a Caitlin Clark jersey for my eight-year-old daughter. She loves the Atlanta dream, but it’s similar to when we were growing up…Everybody still loved Michael Jordan no matter what team you rooted for. I had it in my hand man… And I just couldn’t do it. Her favorite player is Nebraska‘s Britt Prince and I got home and ended up ordering her that jersey for Christmas. It’s actually the first NIL I've ever supported.

What amazes me most about this thread is that iowa has won 10 of the last 11 match-ups, and their fans still need acknowledgement and acceptance from us. I don't think it's possible for me to care about iowa at all. Other than their QB I can't name anyone on their team.

Got around it by having Brian Ferentz evaluated / reviewed by the AD. Water under the bridge and won’t happen again.
Wait, nepo policies are created to make sure that everyone is treated fairly...so iowa...decided to create a policy so that a nepo hire could be treated differently than everyone else???

That is amazing.

Well if your calling Colorado and Missouri pasties what does that make the clarkeyes who have higher winning% than you.

Again the Herkeys have NEVER been relevant in college football.

I googled the winning percentages, since year 2000, which I arbitrarily picked as “modern” football that most fans can relate to.

Colorado is at 47.8%; Missouri at 57.7%; and Iowa at 62.2%. By the way, Nebraska’s win percentage since 2000 is 57.9%. 🥴
