For me the best value for your money is Hulu premium. Get all the channels, ESPN+ and Disney +. In the spring I can watch a lot of college baseball games, especially late-night games from the West Coast and all the SEC baseball games, and of course in the fall I love watching USC women's soccer. For the sports lover for me this is the best streaming platform.
I use YouTube TV. I tried out Sling and Hulu but Sling didn't get local channels at the time. Main reason I chose YTTV over Hulu is that I liked the interface better.
What don't you like about it? I'm thinking about switching to SlingTV with the daypass for college football.
Streaming is just the new cable. Back in 17 or 18, it was the new wave. YouTube TV was like 35 or month. Now, it is almost $90 a month and they are in carriage disputes just like DirecTV used to be. I'm with You Tube TV. Like 18 said, I like the layout, but I'm open to change if something better comes along.
Yep, exactly. It got out of control quick. Plus, streaming is so fractured now. You have your cable streaming, then Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Peacock, Paramount +. Now I think ESPN has their own as well. If you're doing some combination of those, you're not saving money.
The one benefit over cable is that you can still do month-to-month with no contracts. I have typically done YTTV from the start of the CFB season to after the title game, then I cancel it.
I would say highly recommended if they were priced competitively.
With Sling, if you get Orange and Blue + Sports the cost is the same as YTTV. But actually fewer channels.

A la carte is exactly what networks DON'T want you to have. And it mostly isn't the cable channel's fault. Networks require carriers to purchase bundles of channels to ensure that their channels which are in less demand, nevertheless, get picked up.
For instance, if a carrier wanted to have the Discovery Channel, Warner Brothers may require them to purchase a bundle that includes the Discovery Channel, HGTV, Food Network, Animal Planet and Travel Network and probably several other channels.
Same goes for ESPN. A carrier can't just get ESPN. They have to get a bundle that likely includes ESPN, Disney, Disney Jr., Freeform, and various other lesser watched channels.
This is the real reason cable is so bloated with hundreds of channels nobody watches.
I have Youtube TV and would highly recommend. It's got unlimited DVR and the user interface is the best of all the streaming TV services. I've had Fubo, Sling, and (back in the day) Playstation Vue. YTTV is far better than each. If you're looking for the traditional TV experience from a streaming service, you can't go wrong with YTTV.
If all you're needing is somewhere to watch sports, you should look into the ESPN standalone streaming service. Combined with an antenna, you'd pretty much be able to watch everything you would want to.
I'm not sure, but I don't think Hulu live TV has multiview, which is essential for college football (at least for me).
The ESPN app multiview is best (and thankfully with YTTV, you get access to the ESPN streaming service). YTTV has a little bit of a lag when switching between games or switching between multiview and live stream, but the multiview in the ESPN app does not. ESPN also lets you customize if you want 2, 3 or 4 games and choose the games you want. YTTV has predetermined multiview options, but there are usually enough different combinations, you can find one with the games you want.
Nevertheless, having multiview in YYTV seals the deal for me.
That's what I've always heard. I like to binge watch shows. I recorded The Old Man, Better Call Saul, and by the time I settled in to watch them they were gone.
The ESPN app sucks for me. I've tried everything but it just isn't worth the effort.
I like the YTTV multiview as well.

I kind of figured it was the same for everyone, but I have an Apple TV and my nephew has Roku. His ESPN app looks totally different from mine and isn't nearly as good.
I have no idea what ESPN is doing. Their new app is just a rebranding of ESPN+ with a couple added features (Multi-view, etc.). They have nothing extra to give besides the channels they already have.
You can actually choose your games with YTTV multi-view as well. When you choose your game, you should see a side screen asking if you want it in multi-view. After selecting multi-view, you can select your four games from there.
In the past, we used Sling - a combination of the "orange" and "blue" package. It was fine. We have Dish now, though.
My kid's college dorm doesn't have cable, so he's paying $29.99 per month to stream ESPN Unlimited for the duration of the college season. When he comes home for Christmas break, we'll just cancel it.

We use Hulu for live TV, but we mainly watch Britbox and Acorn. We are hooked on British mysteries.
YouTube TV here . . . it's not really cheap but the quality is excellent.

It gives you access to ESPN TV channels. Without a TV provider login, you can't access ESPN, ESPN2, SECN, ACCN, etc. Now if you subscribe to the new service you can get rid of the "traditional" TV provider if all you want to watch is sports.
That's why I stopped using the ESPN app altogether. It constantly "forgets" you were authorized to view it's content and makes you activate it again, which is a PITA!

Right. If you need to see ESPN and its family of networks for sports, you either have to have a "traditional" TV package (cable, satellite, Youtube TV, for example) or the new ESPN direct-to-consumer streaming service.
If all you care about is watching sports, then the ESPN only service is a great option. At $30/month, it's a lot cheaper than other option.
Hulu plus, very satisfied. Like being able to pause subscription during summer when lot of programs are reruns and sports not as active. Automatically turns back on when the date I select comes up. Usually pause for 90 days.
