Wearing a medal has no purpose other than to communicate a message. -- Judge Sandra Ikuta of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, ruling in favor of a man convicted in a "stolen valor" case.

And here I always thought that medals were worn to show that the wearer had done something to earn them. I guess if I'm buried in uniform I could have them pin on a Silver Star or MOH even though the closest I ever came to combat was in L.A. during the Rodney King riots.

I'll categorize this in the same file where I put flag burning. It is something that you probably have a right to do, but it is not something that I think any respectful human being would ever do. If I saw someone doing either, I would immediately think less of them as a person.
