I just voted like four of five years ago. Why do I have to do it again already?

Just got back from the voting site. It was 5 minutes away (community church building) and it took us maybe 10 minutes for the voting process. Saw some names of 2 old acquaintances who were running for district judges. Voted for them, might need them later. Heh, heh, heh. There is one who is retiring I know that helped me out before. Always good to have friends.

The biggest lie told in this thread is you having friends.

The only dumb thing about voting in my precinct. After you give your idea and they scan it and verify you, they give you a little ticket. The ticket has witch district your are voting in. All good so far. You have to give the ticket to a poll worker and he gives you the correct ballot. Again, so far so good.

I take my ticket to the worker and hold it out to him. He looks at me for a second and goes "you have to give me the ticket"

Like why the frick did you think I was holding it right in front of you?

When the taxpayer has to pay for it, no.
Are you under the impression the rest of the benefits given out by the rest of the Federal Government aren't paid for by the taxpayer? When a House rep secures funding for a project in their district they're spending taxpayer dollars and I don't directly benefit. When FEMA helps during a hurricane they're spending taxpayer dollars and I don't directly benefit. When the Federal Government provides funding for rural schools, hospitals, and broadband internet they're spending taxpayer dollars and I don't directly benefit.

That's how paying tax dollars work.

Not at all, but there comes a time when you use the money wisely for purposes you suggested there and not for when it is for a choice which people made to put themselves in debt, no. Given your point here then why could they not give loan relief to anyone who buys a house, car, boat, etc...?

And people had to put themselves in debt because there was no way to afford college otherwise…ya know the thing all the boomers said we just had to do if we were ever going to make something of ourselves.

Us Millennial’s and Gen X’ers got sold a line of ********. And we got left holding the bag on everything that the Boomers screwed up. Hell they’re all still in charge and keep getting elected.

Trump, Biden, Pelosi, McConnell and the rest all need to hit the god damn bricks.

Early voting, no line, in and out quickly. I can't figure out why people wait for the actual day of the election to vote when early voting is so much easier. We drove by a polling station this morning, huge line out the door.
It’s a fun excuse to be ambiguously away from work, duh. - “Is he here? Oh, yeah. It’s Election Day.”

I came home for lunch and then went to vote at 2:15. I waited for one person to check in ahead of me and it all went smoothly. The seats to fill out a ballot were almost full.

The volunteer that checked me in was a Vietnam vet wearing a patriotic polo with an eagle and flag graphic and his veteran ball cap was displayed next to him on the table. I’m a sucker for the general patriotism and meaning of Election Day and thought that was pretty cool.

Voted last Friday about 8 am in Nicholasville when the courthouse was opening. There were probably about 25ish people in line and it went fast. Was in and out in less than 15 minutes (and 5 of that was waiting for my wife to finish -- insert your own joke here).
Well she sure as heck knows she can’t count on you to get her to finish so she’s used to taking extra time to do it herself.

My polling place seemed fairly inviting

I worked the polls yesterday and everything went smoothly. It was a pretty good turnout and the amendments slowed down the process somewhat. The responsibility is stressful...always worried something will go wrong. Believe it or not many voters are wired up and looking for something to get upset about.

I signed up to volunteer in 2023, wouldn't mind doing my bit of public service

You should have asked me, I would have told you differently. Tried to convince my three nephews to try the military before going to college. Number one did, after going to college. Number two has a music degree and works as a plumber. The third has an English degree and works in a warehouse. My daughter didn't go to college until she was 23 and had decided she wanted to be a nurse. Now she has a sweet job at Ford as a nurse.

Four years USN, not until after I got out did I realize what a good time it was. Stationed in Hawaii and then San Diego. WestPAC cruise to Korea, Australia, Philippines, Japan, Guam, etc...

I earned an ASEET and BSBA with no student debt.

I never needed the military to travel the world. I just have a passport. Even when I was a broke *** just out of college I still found a way to bounce around Europe for three weeks.

Sounds like fun. Did your student debt go with you?

My dude what I paid then for my degree and what I would pay now is exactly the point I’ve been making

The job I got coming out of college with my degree couldn’t be had today with the same level of education or pay actually. They’d be asking for a Masters and at least 25 % less starting out

And that’s another problem.

As I said in another thread, in Villa Hills I waited 70 minutes starting at 2:20pm yesterday to sign-in & receive a ballot. Then 5-7 minutes to vote and scan paper ballot into machine. Have never seen anything like that. May have waited 30-40 minutes once years ago but normally 5-10 minutes.

The whole problem was not having enough people/computers to sign you in. They had 4 tablets to finger-paint your name on something like an Etch A Sketch & then gave you a ballot. It was over a minute per person. So they could handle maybe 225 people/hour. Way more voters than that. They still had voters at 7pm.

Friend in next town over, Crescent Springs, said he was in/out in 10-15 minutes. Next town from that, Lakeside Park, had similar lines to Villa Hills as shown on the local CIncy News.

I didn’t vote so no hassle at all, super easy, no lines, nothing, went to work and went home.
