Thinking of cutting the cord. Directv bill is getting outrageous. I know they have free trial, but I'd like some input from those on here before going through the trial period. Really, my only major concern is HD quality live streams. For those that have it, are the live TV shows at HD quality?

Will depend on your your internet package, router, etc - but generally yes.

My parents now use it exclusively up in Canaan Valley using garbage internet and it is overwhelmingly great.

When I cut the cord....I went with PSvue and really liked it. When they got out of the streaming game I choose between Hulu and YouTube since both had the channel lineups I wanted. I decided to go with Hulu because of the number of streams they offered. YouTube is limited and Hulu offered unlimited streams for a small additional monthly fee. Picture quality is better on my streaming devices than it was with cable. Keep in mind that IF you have any smart devices....you DO NOT need to purchase extra streaming devices like Roku or Firesticks .

I have Youtube TV. In past years I've had Sling and I've had just the cable company version of streaming. I'd say Youtube TV is better than the cable company version and about as good as Sling. That said, I don't think any of them are that great.

10-15 years ago, before digital cable, when everyone had analog cable, you could watch three different football games at once. When you pressed the button on the remote, it went instantly to the other channel. Then digital cable came along and it took a second or two to go to the other channel. Now, with the streaming services, it takes several seconds. Maybe I'm missing something but this seems way worse to me. Maybe the picture is better, I don't know.

My Internet package is 100 mbps (up/down). I do not have a really expensive router though. Just a cheaper Netgear.

That's interesting. Never thought about that. I do like flipping back and forth on games a lot. But DTV is raising my bill another $10/month. I'll be right at $190/month for my package/fees/etc. I can get YouTube for $50/month.

The remote/interface change is a massive one.

From D-TV?
Yeah. There is no going to channel 206, or hitting your previous channel. I don't think much of it anymore because I've had a streaming service for 3-4 years now. The channels will be listed alphabetically, so going from ABC to TBS can be frustrating.

You will still need an internet provider. I would also suggest investing in a good router.

Does D-TV quickly switch channels?

If D-TV is charging you too much and you can go a few months without them, stop getting them and after a few months they'll probably be begging you to come back with all kinds of cheap deals.

For me, the channels in Youtube TV are in a big list. When you scroll to the bottom of the list, you then have to scroll all the way up to the top. You can't just hit "down arrow" again and it takes you to the top. That's a pain

Like the regular Youtube, Youtube TV keeps track of what you watch and then the next time it suggests those shows for you. While a bit creepy, that's actually kind of convenient. If you watch a lot of football, you don't have to go searching for the games because they come up in the list automatically.

Right. I have, what originally was DirecTVNow, AT&TNow (??) and I can kind of hack it to where my recently viewed channels make it easier for me to surf a college football Saturday, but even that doesn't totally work. It's still a giant departure from the standard remote days.

BTW, one of those built in Alexa deals might be the way to go? Hey Alexa, turn to NBC.

Have never had a problem with flipping channels with PSvue or now Hulu. Simply used back arrow,my channels or recently viewed.

Does the new channel come on immediately or do you have to wait some seconds? If it's the former then I'm going to sign up for Hulu.

Good idea. I think I will give YouTube a try, tell D-TV to go f**k themselves and tell them why I'm leaving. And see what "deals" they will give me to stay/come back to them.

It has a very slight delay......but.....it's not a issue with me. It also might depend on the router, bandwidth and the internet speed. When PSvue announced they were shutting down.....the stream deteriorated and I would have issues......have never had any streaming issues with Hulu on any of my 8 TVs. My microwave would create issues the TV in my kitchen with PSvue but have had no issues with Hulu.

Don't know what internet provider you use....but....when I cut the cord with Comcast TV they jacked up my internet price. I called them up and said I was cancelling my internet and they gave me a promotion. I call every time the promotion ends and they put me on a new deal.

I want to be able to go upstairs, downstairs and any room and turn on a TV without moving equipment from TV to TV.

You need an HDMI matrix and a good control system. Centralize your sources, cut down on the number of them, and share those sources to all your displays.
