Zakai Zeigler files lawsuit seeking fifth year of eligibility
Tennessee Basketball's Zakai Zeigler is filing a lawsuit seeking a fifth year of eligibility to extend his college career.
Comes a time when you need to grow up and move on with your life.
He needs the NIL moolah...Comes a time when you need to grow up and move on with your life.
He’s 22. 3 years younger than Chad Baker-Mazara who will play next season.Dudes like 26 right?
I've been asking myself this for a while. I think we need to start by admitting that this really isn't college basketball anymore. It's a farm league for the NBA. This Zeigler kid isn't asking for another year so he can finish up his degree, he's asking for it so he can grab a pile of money for another year because he knows his pro options are limited. He's not projected to be drafted, G League salary is about 40k/yr, not sure what his overseas prospects would be, maybe a little better. How does a league survive if it can't set it's own rules.?
Go out and get a job like the rest of us.We can joke about it, but seriously, what other option does a guy in his situation have? Try overseas? That's not awesome, and it's not big money. For most it's a liveable wage, but away from everything. He has to try to get another bag, and hopefully spend it wisely.
He’s played like 180 games, no way.![]()

Even if UT is offering $1M or $500K? Which would you do? Which would you advise your son to do?Go out and get a job like the rest of us.
If my son played four years for UT we wouldn’t have been on speaking terms for about four years.Even if UT is offering $1M or $500K? Which would you do? Which would you advise your son to do?
I get what you’re saying but I don’t think I’d ever advise someone to just start suing to get their way. The dude played a full, meaningful college career. It’s time for the next step in life.Even if UT is offering $1M or $500K? Which would you do? Which would you advise your son to do?
Hey, I'd like to think I'd do the same, but a bag of money like that changes your mindset, possibly uncontrollably. We can't actually know how we'd play it. Only how we like to think we would.I get what you’re saying but I don’t think I’d ever advise someone to just start suing to get their way. The dude played a full, meaningful college career. What I saw was 138 when I looked up the amount while telling my fiance (she's only watched uk the past 2 seasons so she doesn't know how long he's played) and that's 34.5 games for 4 years, at high minutes I believe, he has gotten the most he can out of college ball other than another NIL paycheck. He’s played like 180 games, no way.
He’s not seeking a waiver, so the number of games is irrelevant. Instead he’s seeking a judicial ruling declaring the NCAA’s whole “5 years to play 4” rule to be an unlawful restraint of trade in violation of antitrust laws. He’s played like 180 games, no way.

Had dem fools mixed upHe’s 22. 3 years younger than Chad Baker-Mazara who will play next season.
It’s not that he is doing it. It’s that a stupid corrupt Judge will probably allow it. Thats the damn shame. America is in shambles. If I don’t like something go find a corrupt judge and file in his Jurisdiction. This is Tennessees 4th lawsuit I can remember. UK zero.Hey, I'd like to think I'd do the same, but a bag of money like that changes your mindset, possibly uncontrollably. We can't actually know how we'd play it. Only how we like to think we would.
