College athletics is headed down the wrong path and it’s lawsuits like this one that will ultimately ruin the game. NIL came about because one judge felt that their decision would prevent more litigation.
The NCAA and even the schools and conferences are powerless to regulate their sports because of this BS. Let Zeigler go play in China, I can’t stand that little SOB anyway.

Sad when a dude knows he get cut it at the next level, so he is suing so he can play against younger players and draw a check. He doesn't want to try and run with the big boys (I know, he is short), even overseas. Would rather play against younger, lesser talented players to get paid. I lost any respect for him I had, if I even had any.

This was inevitable. Once it became forbidden to impede a player's ability to transfer without limitation, and forbidden to adhere to the traditional rules of players not being paid like professionals to play college basketball, it was only a matter of time before someone tried to argue the NCAA should have no authority to place a limitation on years of eligibility. Of course he'd rather buck for another year (or more?!?) of commanding NIL contract money to play a game. He won't make that kind of cash working an actual job in the real world.

If this flies... then Jaxson Robinson needs to be able to lace them up again for UK next year. Let's bring back Oscar while we're at it. He still has some eligibility left, right? John Wall? Cousins? Where does it end?

How does a league survive if it can't set it's own rules.?
I've been asking myself this for a while. I think we need to start by admitting that this really isn't college basketball anymore. It's a farm league for the NBA. This Zeigler kid isn't asking for another year so he can finish up his degree, he's asking for it so he can grab a pile of money for another year because he knows his pro options are limited. He's not projected to be drafted, G League salary is about 40k/yr, not sure what his overseas prospects would be, maybe a little better.

We can joke about it, but seriously, what other option does a guy in his situation have? Try overseas? That's not awesome, and it's not big money. For most it's a liveable wage, but away from everything. He has to try to get another bag, and hopefully spend it wisely.

It’s crazy that in the NCAA, a guy can’t get a 5th year at the one school he has played for, but Devin Askew is going into his 6th season playing for his 5th school at Nova next year and Dontaie Allen is looking at transferring to his 4th school for his 6th year.

What a time to be alive!

I get what you’re saying but I don’t think I’d ever advise someone to just start suing to get their way. The dude played a full, meaningful college career. It’s time for the next step in life.
Hey, I'd like to think I'd do the same, but a bag of money like that changes your mindset, possibly uncontrollably. We can't actually know how we'd play it. Only how we like to think we would.

He’s played like 180 games, no way.
What I saw was 138 when I looked up the amount while telling my fiance (she's only watched uk the past 2 seasons so she doesn't know how long he's played) and that's 34.5 games for 4 years, at high minutes I believe, he has gotten the most he can out of college ball other than another NIL paycheck.

I’d like to know what exactly is the basis of his law suit? What harm is he claiming he has incurred by the NCAA? I don’t see how this doesn’t immediately get thrown out by a judge.

He’s not seeking a waiver, so the number of games is irrelevant. Instead he’s seeking a judicial ruling declaring the NCAA’s whole “5 years to play 4” rule to be an unlawful restraint of trade in violation of antitrust laws.

It’s a wild longshot argument that presumably will lose. But it would be a monumental turn of events if he somehow won …perhaps opening the door to unlimited eligibility where players can keep playing as long as they want.

It’s not that he is doing it. It’s that a stupid corrupt Judge will probably allow it. Thats the damn shame. America is in shambles. If I don’t like something go find a corrupt judge and file in his Jurisdiction. This is Tennessees 4th lawsuit I can remember. UK zero.
