Not looking to break the bank but want something reliable and that will hold up going forward. We are selling our house which sits on 1 acre and about to start building on 6 acres. Right now I just have a Husqvarna 48 inch 24 hp riding mower. I'm to the point where I have to replace the spindle assembly and all that jazz. I'll keep it but I'm looking for a zero turn for the new property. Obviously cheaper the better but anythin in the 4-9000 (maybe 10) range would be ideal. Large residential to small commercial is what I'm looking for. I've looked at Scag and Bad Boys. Lowes has some solid looking Ariens and Toros. The Bad Boys look sharp but didn't look the best built and the deck didn't seem as sturdy. Any recommendations?

We have a John Deere 60" at the farm and it's been great. About 8 or 10 years old and other than regular maintenance it hasn't needed a thing.

Be sure you go through a JD dealer though. They sell the more durable mowers than you will sometimes see at the big box stores.

I searched youtube videos to see there are many comparisons that might be worth looking at.
It appears there are some better-suited for larger tracks of land, but purchase cost escalates.
Here are a couple videos that might help, but you might look at a bunch more.
GOOD LUCK in your search and CONGRATULATIONS on your new home location and construction.

There is no way I'd buy a JD from Lowes. Hell, those aren't even John Deere's. I was thinking about running by Meade tractor up in London to look at a few.

I have a Kubota Z421 with a 54” deck. It’s a 2016 model. I have 735 hours on meter.
About 3 weeks ago I had to replace the drive belt. That’s been it as for any problems. I bought a Kubota based on reviews, and I just liked the construction and the 54” option on deck size. I mow around 4 acres weekly.
If I had to do over, I would have bought a 60” inch cut. It takes about 2 1/2 hours to mow.

The Kubotas are pricey. I believe a 60” Z series would be around 12,000.

I will definitely buy another Kubota if and win that time comes. I love the way it mows, and the adjustment of the deck cutting height. The Kawasaki motor has been great.

Get a hydraulic seat. You probably need bigger than 60 inch cut for 6 acres. Or two 48's.

Researched for months and ended up with a Ferris from Central Equipment. I mow a normal yard where I live and an old home place on a farm with a yard and some rough terrain. I keep mowing a little more and more on that property as it had only had the bare minimum mowed for ten years. Ferris has been flawless on both properties and you can't beat the ride.

Ferris are great if you move up to more commercial models. Neighbor loves his. Contractor I know uses them and Hustler.

From a friend with 8 acres-
"Hustler models are great. We went with the lower level commercial model and 56" deck because we have some tougher mowing. Good reviews and repair ratings. Made the mistake of getting inflated tires on the back. Where we have tons of trees, we've had multiple flat repairs and issues keeping them inflated. If you have mostly flat terrain and no trees they're not a big deal.

(We both) Recommend hydraulic seat, but the spring seat isn't real bad on flat terrain. Had to switch over to hydraulic because of my back, after neighbor's cows got on our property and put ******* craters everywhere."

Definitely recommend tweets and a hydraulic seat. Flats are constant without. Ride sucks on rough terrain with tweets alone and no hydraulic seat.
mine has the "My Ride" cockpit suspension. 3 shock absorbers. rides nice on rough terrain and i love the folding canopy!
