RULES FOR POSTING ON THE ZZL
These rules were created to provide a guideline for what is and what is not welcome on the ZZL. Like any set of rules, we cannot cover everything in a simple rules sheet. If a moderator says something is not allowed, even if it is not explicitly prohibited by the rules, please heed the moderator's decision. Ignoring a moderator's request on a thread will be seen as a full violation of the boards rules. Please keep in mind that the moderators cannot read every thread, so if you see a post that violates these rules or is in your opinion inappropriate, offensive, or otherwise problematic, please use the "report post" link or contact a moderator.
Violating any of these first four rules can get you an immediate ban from the ZZL or IC as a whole.
1. Threats of violence and threats of intrusions into someone's real world life and privacy (to other posters, to public officials, etc) are strictly prohibited. Any threats will be removed and the poster may be banned from the entire site, not just ZZL. As a general rule, do not post any information, photo, photoshop or anything else involving another poster of this or any other site, without their expressed permission.
2. Racial, ethnic and homophobic slurs and language are strictly prohibited. Depending on the usage, an immediate ban may be put in place. Severe violations of this rule may be a result in a site-wide ban. Please note that on this forum, the use of the words "gay" or "re_tarded" (and any synonyms of these words) as an insult to either a fellow poster or someone(s) not on this forum is not welcome. The classic example is trying to insinuate that a rival sports team or their fans are "gay." In the eyes of Inside Carolina, "gay" as an insult and such comparisons are a violation of board rules.
3. IC is a sports website first and the rules pertaining to personal attacks on recruits, players and coaches apply on the ZZL as well. On a similar note, content from the premium aspects of this site are not to be shared on the ZZL.
4. Posts containing pornography or links to such are also strictly prohibited.
5. Post with a reasonable level of respect and civility. You don't have to agree with someone to afford them the respect to post their thoughts, and you don't have to like someone to be civil to them. Please keep in mind that the ZZL can be a rough and tumble place full of active debates. The moderators are not hall monitors and are not going to chase down every personal insult that comes up in a conversation. If the moderators do intervene and posters fail to back down from their uncivil behavior, further action will take place. This rule will apply to all who interact on Inside Carolina. As a general practice, it is always best to discuss the post and not the poster.
6. Do not post copyrighted material on this board. All other publications works are copyrighted. If you wish to discuss material that is copyrighted, you can post the link of the material. When in doubt, post an excerpt and a link.
7. References to alcohol, drugs, violence and sex are tolerated on the ZZL, but will be subject to increased scrutiny from the moderators. While most of us are adults, some are not. Do not post to be crude. Posts and images that include partial or full nudity or overly sexualized content, graphic violence for the sake of shock value i.e. without a news-based justification, profanity or are otherwise unsuitable for a board for all ages will not be tolerated and will be removed at the moderators' discretion. Linking to sites that easily access these kinds of material will also be removed. Graphic sexual comments will be removed as well and the posters subject to discipline if a pattern emerges. We ask that any justifiable posts of graphic images be done so by linking, rather than in thread posts.
8. No trolling: While some provocation is to be expected on a message board that covers contentious topics, deliberate and/or repeated posts that lead to the destabilization of threads and the overall harmony of the board will not be tolerated and posters responsible for them shall be removed from the community. This rule is not designed to punish every snide comment that a poster may make, as that behavior falls under Rule #5.
9. Rules for picture posting:
A. No nudity, whatsoever. This should be a given. Don't even link to nudity as doing so is grounds for a ban.
B. No posting pictures that are explicitly sexual, but do not violate the above picture posting rule.
C. Pictures that fall into a gray area of acceptance may be deleted. We're not going to give a reason each time, simply assume because it is borderline, and move on.
10. Please do not use our boards to promote your product or company. If you are interested in advertising, please contact our advertising department. Please email [email protected] for further details.
11. Please review On3 Terms of Service, which all posters agreed to in order to post here. Violations of the TOS can be dealt with in the same manner as the previously stated rules.
12. No Political Talk. The goal of the Inside Carolina community has always been about providing a place for Carolina fans to unite together over a mutually appreciated topic - UNC athletics. Political discussions make achieving that goal much more difficult, especially in recent years. And as this is a sports site, our primary focus remains bringing Carolina fans together around sports.
To that end, after much discussion, we’ve decided to close down the Politics board and the moderators will be strictly enforcing a “no politics” rule across the entire board community moving forward. This will apply to all boards, posts, PMs and avatars and will go into effect on Aug. 5.
That’s not to say the political and social topics aren’t important issues in our time, just that this sports site isn’t the place to debate them. Again, the goal here is bringing Tar Heel fans together. So if you’re aiming to share political opinions or have political discussions, please find another message board community to do so.
How the moderators will act in enforcing these rules.
In most cases the moderators will try to resolve a problem point in thread. If that fails and the behavior persists, we will take further action. This can take the form of anything from a short ban (up to a week), to longer bans in the case of repeat problems, to even a permanent ban in some situations.
A Final Note:
While posting here, please remember that we are all part of a very diverse community. We all have to allow at least some accommodation for the sensitivities of other members, and sometimes we have to accept that our sensitivities are not those of the majority of the community. Please remember that you cannot control what other people say, but you have one hundred percent responsibility of how you respond. If someone is violating the previously posted rules, report the post - DO NOT commit your own violation in response to something that upsets you; this could backfire on you. If someone is posting something to deliberately provoke a response, the best thing you can do is ignore it. Again, you will be held responsible for any rules you violate in your response.
