Alabama transfer Juwan Gary is starting to narrow down his transfer portal options. He’s starting to set some official visits — and has two pinned down already.

Gary is scheduled to visit South Carolina April 15-17 and Nebraska April 18-19, according to On3’s Jamie Shaw. He’s also planning to use all five of his official visits, meaning three more are coming. Western Kentucky, DePaul, Wake Forest and Ole Miss are the other programs he’s looking at visiting.

That list is smaller than the one reported Wednesday night. HoopSeen’s Justin Byerly reported Gary heard from 12 schools, including five of the six reported by Shaw. Wichita State, Georgia, Memphis, Charlotte, South FloridaGeorgia Tech and LSU were the others, while Ole Miss is a new addition to the list.

As a sophomore in 2021-22, Gary averaged 6.5 points and 3.4 rebounds in 15.6 minutes per game. His biggest game of the year came against Florida in January when he dropped 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help Alabama to an 83-70 win in Gainesville. He also had a solid showing in the NCAA Tournament against Notre Dame, scoring 10 points and pulling down four boards in the Crimson Tide’s first-round loss.

Gary arrived in Tuscaloosa as a four-star recruit and a top-100 prospect from the Class of 2019, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Juwan Gary pens farewell to Alabama following transfer portal announcement

Alabama forward Juwan Gary officially announced his intentions to transfer from the Crimson Tide program. On3’s Matt Zenitz and Jamie Shaw confirmed the news Wednesday afternoon, but Gary had been quiet on social media before posting a farewell message to his team and fans.

“I want to thank the ‘Bama family, Coach Oats, Coach Pettway, Coach Charlie, Coach B, and the rest of the staff for all the things you have done & taught me in the game of basketball,” Gary wrote. “I have built much love for the university from the 3 years of being here, and the connection I have with with a lot of great people.

“After these past 2 weeks of hard thinking of making my decision, I have finally come to the conclusion of putting my name in the transfer portal and pursue my basketball career somewhere else.”

Gary played in 59 games at Alabama, making 18 starts before opting to enter the transfer portal. He averaged 5.1 points and 3.1 rebounds over two years and helped his team to the Sweet 16 in 2021.
