2022 four-star Westview quarterback Ty Simpson caught some attention with a touchdown throw against Peabody on Friday night.

Westview would go on to lose to Peabody 31-29 in a thriller. Peabody is currently riding a 39-straight game win streak. Simpson and the Chargers sit at 1-1 through the first two weeks of the 2021 season.

In the season opener, Simpson threw for 325 Yds and 5 touchdowns, completing 20-24 passes. The lauded Alabama committed-quarterback added an additional 107 rushing yards and a touchdown.

On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Power had this to say about Simpson in a tweet

“Alabama QB commit Ty Simpson has put some strong video together throughout the preseason and his first game,” Power tweeted. “Quick twitch, decisive, delivering to multiple levels and making second reaction plays”

As a junior, Simpson threw for 1,888 yards, 20 touchdowns to just four interceptions, adding 311 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. Simpson led Westview to the second round of the Tennessee Division I Class 3A playoffs.

Simpson’s recruitment

Simpson committed to Alabama in February over Clemson, Ole Miss and LSU, among 37 total offers.

Simpson will enter an Alabama quarterback room that features Bryce Young, Paul Tyson and Jalen Milroe. Young enters the 2020 season as the starter after sitting behind Mac Jones last season. Tyson enters his third season at Alabama while Milroe enters his first season with the Tide.

On3 ranks Simpson as a four-star project and the fifth quarterback in the country. Simpson is ranked behind Penn State commit Drew Allar, Clemson commit Cade Klubnik, Texas A&M commit Conner Weigman and LSU commit Walker Howard. A strong senior season could see Simpson elevate to the top of the quarterback rankings and potentially even five-star territory.

At the Elite 11 this summer, Ty Simpson finished as the ninth ranked quarterback at the event. This is what Charles Power had to say on Simpson’s Elite 11 performance.

“Simpson turned in a solid first session at the Elite 11 Finals,” Power wrote. “This would be a theme for his overall week. Simpson showed good accuracy and above-average arm strength, even if he didn’t have the “wow” moments of some others. If the Alabama commit stood out in any category, it was with his movement. Simpson had some of the best footwork, showing the ability to get depth and explode out of his drops.”

Westview quarterback Ty Simpson is rated nationally as the No. 66 prospect overall.
