At the end of September, the Arkansas Razorbacks lost defensive back Dwight McGlothern to a concussion. Finally, against Mississippi State, he was in uniform but didn’t play. Now, Sam Pittman has shared an update on where the star defensive back currently stands.

Pittman explained that McGlothern isn’t dealing with his concussion anymore. Instead, he is working to earn his playing time back.

“He was full go,” Sam Pittman said. “He’s still trying to work his way into playing time. But he was full-go. He was able to play last week. It’s just right now he’s not starting for us.”

Nobody wants to lose a starting job due to an injury, but it does happen. What is surprising is that it’s Dwight McGlothern who lost his job to an injury.

A four-star recruit in the Class of 2020, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, McGlothern originally went to LSU before transferring to Arkansas.

In 2022, McGlothern was one of the best players on a bad Arkansas defense. He had four interceptions and 52 total tackles. The coaches even voted for him to be on a Second-Team All-SEC selection. So, much was expected from him in 2023. The injury didn’t help, but he had played well before that, intercepting two passes in five games.

Still, Sam Pittman found other options on defense in the wake of Dwight McGlothern’s injury. That’s come during a stretch where Arkansas is allowing just 19.3 points per game to SEC West foes.

Still, McGlothern has plenty of talent and it’ll be interesting to see the role he plays in the defense following a bye week, giving him more time to get into the flow of the defense.

Sam Pittman provides update on Raheim Sanders ahead of Florida game

On the offensive side of the ball, Arkansas has been without star running back Raheim Sanders. It’s been a big loss for the Razorbacks and Sam Pittman recently provided an update for Sanders ahead of the Florida game.

“There’s a chance that he’ll be available,” Pittman said. “He has practiced, Monday and Tuesday. Limited basis, but he has practiced. So we’re hoping that he’ll be available on Saturday.”

After only playing in three games to this point in the season, there is hope that Sanders could be back as soon as this week. For an offense that has struggled and even made a change at offensive coordinator, this would be a massive addition back into the Arkansas lineup.
