Bo Nix recently entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, and he had a “do not contact” tag attached to his entry. Having that tag attached to his transfer portal is interesting for Nix. But the reasoning is simple. Nix just didn’t want his phone blowing up.

The former Auburn quarterback joined The Next Round podcast, where he went in depth on his decision to transfer.

“Well I was treating this a little bit differently,” Nix said of his do not contact portal entry. “Normally when guys go into the portal, it’s like open recruitment again. With me being a graduate transfer, I did not want the attention and the entertainment of everybody. I think that there was a few that I had already had in mind, and I knew that would reach out if they needed a quarterback. So I didn’t just want to entertain everyone. So the few I did, obviously I’ve talked to and they’re on the same page as me.

“But all that was is just not wanting my phone to blow up quite frankly. Just kind of take it slow and be on my time and not have to worry about a bunch of directions. The ones that needed to come out, they would contact me and they would pursue a relationship with me to try to get me.”

In his three-year Auburn career, Nix threw for 7,251 yards, 39 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. He also had 869 rushing yards with 18 additional touchdowns on the ground. Nix suffered an injury late in the year that ended his season.

Could Ole Miss be a transfer destination for Nix?

In the same appearance on The Next Round, Nix also mentioned that Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has reached out to him. The Rebels will be losing Matt Corral to the NFL after this season, opening the door for a potential landing spot for Nix. Ole Miss appears to be one of those potential transfer landing spots for Nix, but he said that he has spoken to multiple coaches across the country.

“I’ve spoken to a bunch of different coaches on the phone or text message, whichever one that is, and [Kiffin is] obviously not the only one,” Nix said. “But I believe that I’m in a situation that when teams need a quarterback, I would like to believe that I could be that guy for them, so I’d hope a lot of people in their situation would reach out.”
