Transfer Portal Latest - April 18, 2024

After a long stint at Texas A&M and a short stint with USC, defensive lineman Isaiah Raikes has chosen the third program of his collegiate career, with On3’s Hayes Fawcett learning that he’s committed to the Auburn Tigers.

After spending four years at College Station, Raikes decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal last December. Committing to USC in January and participating in spring practice this year before having a change of heart, entering the transfer portal once again on April 12.

“I want to thank the USC coaches and staff for investing the time and effort in me over the last few months,” Raikes tweeted on Sunday. “This decision was not easy, but I must trust God in this process and the journey. I will be announcing my decision tomorrow.”

Raikes’ decision has now been made, choosing to join Auburn ahead of the Tigers’ second season under head coach Hugh Freeze following a 6-7 finish last year.

Raikes played high school football at St. Augustine Prep in Richland (NJ) where he was a four-star recruit. Ranked the No. 392 overall prospect in the nation and the No. 45 defensive lineman from the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

After recording just one tackle in his six game appearances during first year at Texas A&M and earning the Defensive Most Improved Award during spring practice, Raikes appeared in all 12 games and made one start for the Aggies in 2021 where he had eight tackles from his spot on the interior defensive line. Named the Most Improved defensive player yet again this time at the team’s end of the season banquet.

In the past two seasons Raikes has appeared in 24 games and made four starts for the Aggies, named a season-long team captain in 2022 and recording 17 tackles apiece in 2022 and 2023. Also posting 4.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a pass breakup.

His stats don’t jump off the page from the defensive tackle position but at 6-foot-2, 320 pounds there’s no question that Raikes can be an effective run stopper and gap plugger in the Auburn Tigers’ defense.
