Baton Rouge (La.) Madison Prep Academy defensive lineman Quency Wiggins is fresh off a visit to Florida, but the Gators wanted a little more face time.

Wiggins, the No. 55 overall player in the 2022 On300 rankings, was visited Friday night by defensive line coach David Turner and defensive backs coach Wesley McGriff. Wiggins’ opponent, University Lab, also features two major Florida targets in the 2022 and 2023 class: brothers Austin Ausberry and Jaiden Ausberry. Austin is a consensus four-star prospect in this year’s class, while Jaiden ranks as the No. 64 overall player in the 2023 On100.

As for Wiggins, the Gators are one of five schools in major contention for his commitment. They’re joined by Alabama, USC, Florida and LSU. He tweeted earlier this week: “It’s about that time but it’s a tuff decision” with emojis of each of those five schools.

Quency Wiggins visited Florida last weekend

Wiggins took his first official visit of the recruiting cycle this past weekend to Florida. After the visit, he talked about how the trip felt like home for him. Wiggins also talked about his strong bond with Gators’ head coach Dan Mullen and how he’s done a good job of developing players.

This weekend, though he’ll be in Austin as Texas faces off against Oklahoma State. He’s joined by a massive group of official and unofficial visitors, headlined by five-star 2022 wide receiver Evan Stewart and No. 1 overall 2023 prospect Arch Manning.

Wiggins remains a huge defensive priority for the Longhorns, who have a quintet of defensive linemen already on board for 2022.

On3 Director of Scouting Gerry Hamilton says Texas has a better shot at landing Wiggins than many think.

“This weekend’s visit is going to be key,” Hamilton said. “Texas has done a very good job of recruiting him. Getting him on campus to see a game day atmosphere is key.”

Remaining on his visit list are trips to USC, LSU and Alabama. Quency Wiggins said recently that Florida and in-state LSU have been recruiting him the hardest.
