Florida State has offered Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College defensive back Marquise Gilbert.

The Palm Coast, Fla., native will graduate in December and has three seasons of eligibility remaining.

Gilbert is considered one of the best junior college recruits in the 2022 cycle. He holds offers from over 20 schools — including Auburn, Colorado, Maryland, Mississippi State, NC State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Tennessee and Utah.

Gilbert has 18 tackles and two pass breakups this fall.

Marquise Gilbert is going on an official visit to Auburn

Marquise Gilbert has already been on a visit to Colorado this season and has at least two more trips planned for the rest of the year.

He will visit Auburn for the last weekend in October and be at Tennessee for its game against Georgia on Nov. 13.

Gilbert told Auburn Live he is looking forward to his visit to The Plains.

“I can’t wait,” Gilbert said. “It feels great. I’m excited. I’m looking forward to seeing what they have to offer, getting a feel for the atmosphere, as well as the coaches.”

Auburn Live’s Jeffrey Lee said a few weeks ago that Auburn will “probably” sign two JUCO defensive backs this cycle.

Florida State’s recruiting class is on shaky ground

Florida State’s recruiting class has been under a lot of scrutiny over the last few months, and the Seminoles tough start to the season has raised even more questions about potential decommitments and recruits deciding against committing to the team.

Saturday was a particularly tough day for the Seminoles. Memphis (Tenn.) IMG Academy four-star interior offensive lineman Aliou Bah decommitted from Florida State.

“I’m leaning towards going to another university,” Bah told On3’s Chad Simmons.

Bah was one of the top recruits in the class for the Seminoles, ranking as the No. 276 overall recruit in the 2022 On300.

Suwanee (Ga.) Collins Hill athlete Travis Hunter, the class’ crown jewel, has said all the right things about his commitment to Florida State. But that hasn’t meant other teams aren’t aggressively trying to flip him, most notably the in-state Georgia Bulldogs. Hunter has gone on two visits to Athens in the past three weeks and Kirby Smart made a grand entrance at Collins Hill’s most recent game.

No matter what happens with Hunter and other members of the class, grabbing Marquise Gilbert would be a nice pickup for Mike Norvell and his staff.
