Mike Norvell opens up on what Jordan Travis means to Florida State, college football
Mike Norvell and the Florida State Seminoles became the first team to miss the College Football Playoff, despite being an unbeaten Power Five champion. In the end, a major part of that decision came down to the injury to star quarterback Jordan Travis.
While doing a press conference for the Orange Bowl, Norvell took the time to praise Travis.
“To touch on Jordan, just a special man,” Mike Norvell said. “The example he’s been for our football team, the way that he’s grown, the work that he’s put in, the way that he approaches every day whether it was practice, meeting rooms, what he’s doing in the classroom, he approached every day as a champion.”
Of course, Norvell feels that Travis has had an impact on all of college football, not just Florida State.
“I think that he’s been one of the bright lights of college football that you see somebody that was in a challenging, tough moment that has really improved at a drastic level. He’s become one of the best players in the country and he did it the right way,” Norvell said.
“He cares about people, he cares about this university, he cares about his teammates. Unfortunately, he got injured. That was the end of his playing career. Even through that, I mean, he’s been so present in everything that he could be just to help his teammates, to continue to be supportive, the encourager. I mean, he’s what’s right about college athletics. Just so glad to have his example. Just a wonderful Seminole.”

In the end, Jordan Travis’ injury and the way the committee viewed Florida State without him is difficult for Florida State fans to handle. However, Travis sent out a message to fans, reminding them to celebrate what this team has accomplished.
“Thank you to the fans for a great season,” Travis wrote. “We are not done yet, and lets control what we can control. The journey has been so great, and today we are ACC champions. Let’s not let the opinions of others affect how we feel about being champions of this conference. Proud of this team.”
Heather Dinich praises Jordan Travis’ response to CFP snub
While debating Florida State being snubbed by the College Football Playoff on Get Up, reporter Heather Dinich praised Jordan Travis for his response to the snub and telling Jalen Milroe of Alabama to go and win the championship.
“One thing, of all the people who’ve been yelling about this,” Heather Dinich said. “I just want to say that no one has handled this in a classier way than Jordan Travis who expressed his disappointment and then turned around and said, ‘Hey, Jalen Milroe, go win it all, man.’ And I think there’s a lot of adults in the room who could take a page out of his playbook and just take a deep breath and say, ‘Go on, man, Everybody go figure it out. See who wins.’”
