David Pollack explains why winning a third straight title will be harder for Georgia in 2023

College football analyst David Pollack made a name for himself as a star at Georgia. The last two seasons saw Georgia win national championships, something Pollack was never able to do. Still, he also expects a third championship in a row to be the hardest yet.

While speaking to On3’s JD PicKell on The Hard Count, Pollack explained why he would take the field to win the 2023 national title.

“If you ever give me that questions, there’s very few times that I’m gonna say a singular team,” David Pollack said. “I think this year’s championship will be different. It will be harder for Georgia and I say that because last year when Kirby [Smart] started team meetings he could say, ‘Jordan Davis and 14 other guys who got drafted are in the NFL. You guys sitting in the seats, y’all didn’t win a national title. This is a new team.'”

“Now he’s gonna go, ‘Stetson’s [Bennett] not here and Jalen’s [Carter] not here, but most everybody else is back. So, I think it’s a different rebuild. I think the way they’ve recruited has been stupid and they’re gonna be right there in the mix and I would be surprised if they’re not in the Playoff, but every team is different.”

In particular, as David Pollack pointed out, a lot of how Georgia does in 2023 comes down to two new offensive figures at quarterback and offensive coordinator.

“I think Carson Beck has a chance to be really special. He’s a guy who has sat at the University of Georgia for three years and waited his time and I think there’s something to that. He’ll be experienced, he’ll have seen things, he’ll know things, he’ll know how to prepare, he’ll know how to lead. I think he’s big, he’s strong, he’s accurate. So, I think he fills in for Stetson well. You know, Todd Monken leaves and goes to the NFL. Now, [Mike] Bobo is calling plays,” Pollack said.

“There’s always a little bit of a transition and different things that go on. But [Brock] Bowers is still there and [Ladd] McConkey is still there and an offensive line that will be really, really good.”

David Pollack emphasized that the messaging has to change for Kirby Smart because this is going to be a unique team from the ones that came before it.

“But there will be new pieces, it won’t be as easy a job to say, hey, let’s just go compete and act like we didn’t do it again two years in a row.”

Stetson Bennett on Georgia’s culture

After a series of off-field issues, including multiple players being arrested for various reasons, there are questions about the culture at Georgia. However, Stetson Bennett defended the program.

“Uh, no. You know, those were individual mistakes that those individuals are responsible for; not a culture issue,” Bennett said.
