Bill Self got an early shower on Monday, getting ejected against Texas Tech late in the second half. He was not too happy with an offensive foul call going against his team away from the ball. Kansas took another loss on the road, adding to the frustration of recent performances away from home.

Following the game, Self admitted he was not attempting to be thrown out of the game. However, he did take some time to be critical of the officiating throughout the entire contest. Claiming to not be one to usually complain, Self felt strongly enough about the ref’s performance in Lubbock to speak up.

“I really wasn’t trying to get thrown out,” Self said. “I don’t feel like the game was being officiated the way it’s meant to be officiated. I don’t b*tch and complain.”

Looking at the box score, both teams were called for 14 fouls and had similar numbers from the line. Kansas made 13 of 17 from the charity stripe, while Texas Tech went 15 of 22. Not too big of a difference, especially in the physical Big 12.

For as long as Self has been at Kansas, he has accomplished a lot. The most impressive of them all may be how infrequently he gets tossed from a game. Unfortunately, things changed after Monday’s double technical. An overall frustrating night for the Jayhawks.

Kansas, Bill Self continues to struggle on the road

To no surprise, Kansas has been incredible at Allen Field House this season. They are a perfect 13-0 in front of the home crowd and have multiple signature wins. However, as with every team inside of the Big 12, winning on the road has felt nearly impossible at times.

With the Texas Tech game going final, all six of Kansas’ losses will be away from Lawrence. Four of them are true road games, with a nonconference loss to Marquette taking place at the Maui Invitational.

Kansas has six games remaining on the schedule, with the home and road games being split right down the middle. BYUKansas State, and Texas will all make the trip to one of college basketball’s best cathedrals in an attempt to end the Jayhawks’ home-winning streak.

BaylorHouston, and Oklahoma will be the trio to host Kansas and will present quite the test moving forward. There are a lot of problems to fix but getting McCullar in the lineup should help.
