Louisville landed its fourth commitment in six days on Friday when Saline (Mich.) four-star tight end Dylan Mesman pledged to the Cardinals. His decision elevated Louisville’s 2024 recruiting class to No. 18 in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

The Cardinals’ group, which also ranks No. 3 in the ACC, climbed 10 spots from No. 28. Head coach Jeff Brohm and his staff now have pledges from three four-stars, three three-stars and one unranked prospect.

“As I watched their spring game, I saw myself in those cleats playing on that field and it just felt right,” Mesman told On3’s Chad Simmons. “Something about that feeling was different. Me committing to Louisville felt like a dream come true.”

Mesman is the No. 384 overall prospect and No. 25 tight end in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 8 player in Michigan.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound recruit is Louisville’s third blue-chip commit, alongside Miami (Fla.) Columbus four-star linebacker TJ Capers and Homestead (Fla.) four-star running back Isaac Brown. All three players are ranked in the top 25 at their respective positions.

Louisville’s class also contains New Braunfels (Texas) Canyon three-star quarterback Deuce Adams, Radcliff (Ky.) North Hardin three-star wide receiver Shaun Boykins, Noblesville (Ind.) three-star offensive tackle Ransom McDermott and Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage offensive tackle Jimmy Williams. All four players have committed this month, with Boykins, McDermott and Williams all choosing the program since April 22.

Louisville is off to a fast start this cycle

Even though Louisville lost pledges from El Campo (Texas) four-star running back Rueben Owens (Texas A&M) and Los Alamitos (Calif.) St. John Bosco four-star wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr. (Texas) last cycle, the Cardinals were still able to sign a top-30 class. Brohm and Co. ended up landing six four-star prospects.

They continued their recruiting success by notching a commitment from Capers, the No. 41 overall prospect and No. 4 linebacker in the On3 Industry Ranking. He chose Louisville over Colorado, Georgia, Miami and USC.

“I just love the idea of bringing in other top recruits,” Capers told On3’s Chad Simmons on Jan. 7. “I love the way their linebackers are playing, and I know I can come in early and get a lot of playing time. They showed a lot of love when I was there. All of that played into me becoming a Cardinal.

“…I started watching Louisville from a distance, and I liked the way they play. They were beating a lot of teams that they weren’t expected to beat, and then they started getting some other top recruits.”
