Louisville has been active in the transfer portal this offseason following the departure of head coach Scott Satterfield and the arrival of new head coach Jeff Brohm. The Cardinals had 25 players leave the program this offseason via the transfer portal, but also had 25 new prospects join the team through the portal as well.

According to On3’s 2023 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings, Louisville has the top-ranked Transfer Portal Index score based on what they lost and gained through the transfer portal this offseason. And one of those additions was former Cal quarterback Jack Plummer.

Plummer recently joined ‘The Deener Show’ to discuss all things Louisville football, and spoke about some new additions to the wide receiving core that he’s particularly excited about heading into the 2023 season.

“I think Jamari Thrash, the transfer from Georgia State, I think he’s special,” Plummer said. “He went for over 1,000 yards last year and he really knows how to get open. He can take the top off the defense too, has a full package of routes he can run.”

Thrash joined the Cardinals this offseason following a true breakout season for the Panthers last year, where he nearly doubled his production in receptions, yards, and touchdowns ending the season 61 catches for 1,122 yards and seven touchdowns.

He became the first Georgia State player since 2017 to achieve 1,000 receiving yards in a run-heavy offensive scheme, but he’s not the only weapon out wide that joined Louisville this offseason.

“And then Jimmy Calloway from Tennessee, I think he’s just naturally a really good athlete. He can move around very well, catches the ball, he actually played quarterback in high school so I think he’s got a good understanding,” Plummer said.

Calloway doesn’t quite have the production of Thrash, fighting for reps in a competitive and talented wide receiver room in Knoxville for the last three seasons. But in his career, he has recorded nine receptions for 124 yards and a touchdown, boasting an impressive 13.7 yards per catch average.

“And then some of the guys coming back like Ahmari [Huggins-Bruce]. Just watching him run, if you just get him running he’s real fast,” Plummer said. “Chris Bell, I’m excited for him, get him going. And then Kevin Coleman I think will play a good role for us too.”

Just one of Louisville’s top five pass catchers from last season returned for the 2023 season, but Plummer is still confident that their new look, spread-out passing attack can be effective with the weapons they’ve retained and gained this offseason.

“There’s a ton of other guys I think that will be able to get to play and do a lot of things for us and we have a lot of packages where we’ve got five wide receivers on the field. So there will be plenty of opportunity to spread the ball around and get those guys the ball,” Plummer said.
