Louisville football just received some bad news. According to local WDRB reporter Rick Bozich, the Cardinals will officially be without leading receiver Jamari Thrash against Virginia Tech this afternoon.

Thrash and a number of other Louisville players were noted as questionable and game-time decisions for the matchup with the Hokies. Now, we know that Thrash will be out for certain. Here was the tweet from Bozich noting the Thrash absence with updates on some of the other injuries:

“Jamari Thrash definitely out for Louisville football today. (OL) Bryan Hudson, (RB) Jawhar Jordan and (OL) Willie Tyler game time decisions. Cards Virginia Tech at 3:30 p.m.”

The big news is no Jamari Thrash, and there’s some whispers he may have suffered a pretty serious injury to his hand or wrist. Meanwhile, Willie Tyler is the team’s starting left tackle while Bryan Hudson has started at center this season.

Lastly, Jawhar Jordan is a loss that would be just as big as Thrash, as the two are the main engines of the Cardinal offense among the skill talent.

Additional injury updates from Pete Thamel

ESPN’s Pete Thamel provided a thorough update of the Louisville injury report on College GameDay on Saturday morning.

“A busy day on the injury front for Jeff Brohm,” Thamel said. “First of all star corner Jarvis Brownlee Jr. will be out today according to sources, and there will be four players on the Louisville offense who are considered game-time decisions.”

Brownlee is a massively important piece on his own, a lockdown defensive back who can be counted on to limit an opposing team’s top target.

He has recorded 21 tackles, a tackle for a loss, a fumble recovery and four pass breakups. He’ll be sorely missed.

But the offensive players that will be missing could create additional complications for the Cardinals. Star running back Jawhar Jordan is among those battling injuries right now.

“You mentioned Jordan, his hamstring is still in flux,” Thamel said. “Star receiver Jamari Thrash will also be a game-time decision. Then there’s two members of Louisville’s offensive line — left tackle Willie Tyler and center Bryan Hudson.”

Those would all be significant losses for the Cardinals as they attempt to put a stamp on the ACC title race and take sole control of second place in the ACC standings.

Thamel made sure to underscore Thrash’s importance.

“Important to remember about Thrash, if he does or does not go, he has three times more receiving yards than Louisville’s next leading receiver, so his presence looms large over this game today, Rece,” Thamel said.
