LSU Tigers Lose to Florida State | What's Next for Brian Kelly and Jayden Daniels?

LSU‘s season opener didn’t go the way the Tigers wanted it to, with Florida State putting together a dominant second half to secure a 45-24 win. But on the bright side LSU’s injury report came out fairly positive.

Only two of the players that were dinged up during the game even appear on the injury report this week.

“Injury report would be Armoni (Goodwin) would still be questionable, and then the only one would be (Aaron) Anderson, which would be probable,” Kelly said on Tuesday.

Goodwin did not play in the game against Florida State, ruled out in the team’s final injury report before the game began. He’s been at LSU for the last two years, where he’s racked up 61 carries for 332 yards and five touchdowns.

His return would certainly help, especially given the ongoing absence of running back John Emery. Emery did not play in the opener and won’t be available against Grambling State.

“And then yes, so he’s not available this weekend,” said Kelly, without providing further specifics.

Anderson, a transfer from Alabama, logged one catch for 7 yards in the Florida State game.

Jayden Daniels taking ownership

It’d be one thing to explain away LSU’s second half had the injury report been littered by star names. Instead, LSU just seemed to fade as the game wore on.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels took ownership and put that on his own shoulders.

“Everything falls on me,” Daniels said. “What coach was talking about, the urgency and the choices we make, he’s right. Everything falls back on me.”

Daniels explained that he simply wasn’t able to get his guys going in the second half, when Florida State mounted a 31-0 run unanswered.

“Being the leader and the quarterback on the team, I have to get the guys going. I have to set the tempo. First half, we had that. We’ve got to finish drives that we had in the red zone. You know that set us back a little bit,” Daniels said. “But coming out of halftime, that starts with me and getting the guys going. First drive, I felt like we had urgency, but in critical moments I have to get going, and I have to set the tempo and I have to be able to push the guys.”

With a relatively clean injury report, LSU will return to action looking to get in the win column this weekend against Grambling State.
