LSU vs. Auburn Preview and Prediction

LSU has had different running backs step up at different times so far this season. With that said, Notre Dame transfer Logan Diggs appears to have taken over the lead role.

Diggs had 24 carries for 134 yards and a touchdown in last week’s win over Missouri. The only other Tigers running back who had a rushing attempt against Mizzou was Josh Williams, who had 2 carries for 10 yards.

While John Emery did not have a carry last week, he has been an important piece of the offense at times during his career.

LSU coach Brian Kelly was asked about the Tigers plan at running back this week ahead of Saturday’s game against Auburn.

“I mean, we’re going to have them all ready and available. And it’s kind of been the same theme, you know. We’re going to go with the guy that is running well,” Kelly said. “Logan Diggs has been really good. We’ve kind of stuck with him.”

Logan Diggs has topped the 100-yard mark in three of the five games he has played in this season, and he rushed for 97 yards in another one.

On the year, he has 81 carries for 488 yards, for an average of 6 yards per carry.

While Diggs is currently the lead back for LSU, that could change as the season goes along. However, right now, Kelly is happy with the way he is playing.

“If it’s somebody else, we’ll go with them. They’ll all be ready. They’ll all be prepared. And we’ll see how things play out Saturday night,” Kelly said.

Brian Kelly raves about how LSU QB Jayden Daniels compares to ‘the great ones’

Whichever LSU running back has been in the game this season has been aided by Tigers star quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Whether he’s making plays with his arm or his legs, Daniels has proven to be one of the best quarterbacks in college football so far in 2023.

The Tigers defense has struggled at times this year, but Daniels has been the one to keep his team in games. The latest example came on Saturday against Missouri, as he willed LSU to a win and avoided a second SEC loss.

Brian Kelly has been amazed by what Daniels has done, saying the quarterback is playing at an elite level. The numbers back it up, being at the top of a few stats in the SEC and even nationally. Kelly knows Daniels put in the work this offseason and results are showing through six games.

“He’s playing at an elite level,” Kelly said during Wednesday’s SEC Coaches Teleconference. “He leads the SEC and ranks second nationally in total offense. He leads the SEC in total touchdowns and pass efficiency. His development has been well chronicled. He’s done all the things necessary to put himself in this position — he has worked his tail off. It’s great to see him have this kind of success. Our offense has really been driven a led by him.”
