The non-conference schedule for Miami men’s basketball is now out, and there are some matchups with great potential. The Hurricanes kick things off with an exhibition against IUP the day before Halloween before the season opener on Nov. 7 when Lafayette comes to Coral Gables.

The first big event for Miami will be the Naismith Memorial Basketball HOF Tip-Off Tournament on Nov. 19-20 in Uncasville, Connecticut. There, Jim Larranaga’s team will face Providence on the 19th before playing Maryland or St. Louis the following day.

In the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, Miami will host Steve Pikell’s Rutgers squad on Nov. 30. And three days before that, an intriguing in-state matchup with UCF on the road in Orlando.

In conference play, Miami should be a contender in the ACC according to one insider

College basketball insider Jon Rothstein recently published his preseason ACC poll, ranking all 15 ACC basketball teams ahead of the 2022-23 season. A couple of familiar favorites top the list, but also check out some of the teams Rothstein believes will be sleepers in the conference this season.

Based on Rothstein’s rankings, Miami should be an outside contender for the conference title. The Hurricanes would have to ultimately finish out ahead of what should be a heavyweight North Carolina team, among others. And a fifth-place ACC finish should also mean Miami is looking at an NCAA Tournament berth.

Here are his full rankings.
