Miami hosted a handful of blue-chip prospects this weekend and came away with a commitment and a place near the top of some major recruitments.

Hurricanes recruiting insider Izubee Charles joined The Inside Scoop football recruiting show to break down Miami’s big visit weekend and preview an upcoming commitment announcement.

4-star RB Girard Pringle

Tampa Armwood four-star running back Girard Pringle visited Miami this past weekend and walked away committed to the Hurricanes. Pringle, the nation’s No. 93 overall prospect in the 2025 On300, was offered by Miami last month.

“When you look at Pringle’s recruitment, things have moved pretty rapidly since he was first offered on February 19,” Charles said. “You have to give all that credit to new Miami running backs coach Matt Merritt. During his time at USF, Pringle was his guy even before he was ranked a top-100 prospect. That continued when he got the job at Miami. He’s taken a lot of visits in the last few weeks, but at the end of the day he just felt like Miami was home.

“Even though he shot up a lot of recruiting boards across the country, the Canes just landed one of the best running backs in that 2025 class. You have to give a lot of credit to Matt Merritt. Big win for Miami, in-state guy and beating out a lot of Power 5 programs for that commitment.”

4-star WR Dallas Wilson

Though a Florida native, Tampa Bay Tech four-star wide receiver Dallas Wilson has been committed to Oregon since January 2023. Wilson is the nation’s No. 25 overall prospect, and the in-state receiver was part of Miami’s recruiting weekend.

“Miami has been trying to get Wilson on campus for some time now,” Charles said. “Seeing him down in Coral Gables is a step in the right direction. He’s been committed to Oregon for over a year now, but the Hurricanes are trying to just slowly chip away at that commitment and try to bring him down to Miami. He has an official visit locked in with the Hurricanes on June 7, so there’s definitely very strong interest from Wilson and his camp. And the Hurricanes love the saying ‘It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon.’ And I think that’s the approach that they’re taking with Wilson, kind of slowly but surely chipping away, chipping away and getting him on campus.

“I think the Canes are in a great spot with him. I’m not going to say he’s on flip watch right now, but I do think Miami is a really serious contender to watch in the coming months with Dallas Wilson.”

4-star WR Jaime Ffrench

Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin four-star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench decommitted from Alabama shortly after Nick Saban’s retirement. Since then, Ohio State and Florida State have been heavily involved in his recruitment.

But it’s not all Buckeyes and ‘Noles. Ffrench recently took important visits to LSU and Tennessee before landing in Coral Gables this past weekend.

“I would have to say after this visit, [Miami is] definitely inside that top three,” Charles said. “I spoke with Ffrench when he wrapped things up on Saturday, and he said he really knew that visit to Miami was much needed and had a big impact on the way that he viewed the Hurricanes. Since he backed off of that pledge to Alabama, he’s been to Miami twice in the last three months. So there’s definitely strong interest there. I do believe Miami is in that top three. The Hurricanes are right in the mix with coach Kevin Beard leading that push, Mario Cristobal having his hand in that recruitment as well.

“I think Miami is definitely going to be a school to watch in the coming months for Jaime Ffrench. He told me he’s looking to commit either before his senior season or three to four games in. So it’s going to be some time before he announces that commitment, but like Wilson, Miami is chipping away piece by piece at Jaime Ffrench — one of the best wide receivers in that 2025 class.”

4-star CB Chris Ewald

Miami has been the frontrunner in Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep four-star cornerback Chris Ewald‘s recruitment ever since he decommitted from Michigan. Ewald is the No. 12 recruit at his position and the Canes will try to keep him home this cycle.

“I have to say so,” Charles said when asked if Miami was the team to beat. “Like Pringle Saturday, it was his second time in Miami this spring. The interest is there, he’s loving what he’s seeing from Miami. But I would pump the brakes on saying he’s on commit watch just at this moment. Just because new defensive backs coach Chevis Jackson is kind of just establishing that relationship. But he’s doing a great job of it and not only making Chris feel great but his father as well, who was on both visits with him.

“He’s loving what he’s seeing from the Canes and coach Jackson. Chris is one of the best prospects in South Florida and the country. Miami would love nothing more to keep him home. I would say they’re kind of the frontrunner, the leader right now — establishing themselves as the team to beat.”

4-star LB Tarvos Alford

Port Saint Lucie (Fla.) Vero Beach four-star linebacker Tarvos Alford is a top-75 prospect in the 2025 cycle and is approaching his March 30 commitment date. Ohio State and Miami have been the longtime favorites in this recruitment, with the Buckeyes having the edge in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

“I would say exactly that — a Miami and Ohio State battle,” Charles said. “He was on campus I believe the Hurricanes’ second or third spring practice and leading up to his big day I think Miami is on his mind. A lot of people right now are giving the edge to Ohio State. I have to agree with that, but I’m not saying by much, I would say it’s maybe 51-49 type of race — really, really close. I wouldn’t be surprised if this went either way. One thing I think is really keeping Miami in this race is his family. Originally from Miami, has a lot of family still in Miami and his dad is a Canes fan himself — that’s something he told me months ago, that’s kind of always played in the back of his mind playing for that hometown school.

“Definitely going to be one we are watching on March 30 when he makes that decision. I do think it’s going to be a very tight race in the end, but I have to give the small, slight advantage to Ohio State because they got the most recent visit. But I wouldn’t be surprised if this one goes either way.”
