The ACC has five teams ranked following the first College Football Playoff Rankings reveal. Clemson tops the list (No. 5), while Syracuse (20), Wake Forest (21) and NC State (22) fall behind toward the end of the rankings.

North Carolina sits at No. 17, and at 7-1 on the season, has a chance to make a huge splash in the rankings if they were able to win out and claim the ACC crown for themselves. Tar Heels head coach Mack Brown discussed the state of the ACC following the first rankings reveal, where he believes this is just the start of the conference’s takeover of the CFP rankings over the coming season.

“Just look at what Syracuse has done this year, and Syracuse is a team that people weren’t talking about. I saw we’re playing them next year. Dino [Babers] has done a great job, so proud for him,” Brown said Wednesday. “Wake [Forest] and [NC] State were supposed to be there. People talked about them as teams that would be there, and I know there were some concern about whether Florida State wasn’t ranked as well as they’ve done at times.”

With five ACC teams claiming initial spots in the CFP Top 25, Brown believes even more teams are on the way to that same success. Duke, Louisville and Florida State all sit at 5-3, and if one more game would have gone their way, could easily have found themselves in the same position as a Syracuse, Wake Forest, NC State, ore even UNC.

“The league’s really, really good and I think it’ll just continue to get better,” Brown said. “We had so many new coaches this year and those guys will get better and better each year when they get their recruiting going.”
