North Carolina bounced back from their narrow, two-point loss to Pitt with an 88-79 win over Wake Forest on Wednesday. The Tar Heels not only secured their 10th win of the season, but head coach Hubert Davis also secured some new lingo, as he shared a new phrase that he learned from his star big man Armando Bacot.

“He said a motion? Like having motion, so Armando said that a couple of days ago and he kept saying it and I was like I don’t know what that means, I said what does motion mean?” Davis asked.

Merriam-Webster defines motion as an act, process, or instance of changing place, but Bacot has a different meaning of the word that he educated Davis on, keeping him up to date on how his generation uses the word.

“He says you have everything, you’ve got a nice car, you’ve got good friends, your life is in motion,” Davis explained.

Once Davis’ lesson was over, it was time for him to add motion to his own vocabulary and apply it in the field, choosing during a timeout of Wednesday night’s game versus the Demon Deacons to debut his new slang.

“And so in the huddle I said look guys let’s get into motion, and they all just looked at me and started laughing. I was like did I say it the right way? Did I say it the wrong way? And we all just started laughing, I was like Armando taught me the word,” Davis smiled and said, getting a large laugh out from surrounding media members.

Davis’ funny moment in the huddle paid off for the Tar Heels, as they found themselves down one point at halftime and followed it with 50 point second-half scoring outburst that propelled them victory.

“They were surprised a 52-year-old knew that, and so the new word is motion. So in the second half, we were in motion okay? It was great,” Davis said.

RJ Davis and Leaky Black were key contributors in the Tar Heels win, both going on scoring tears in each half of the ball game. Black had 14 first-half points and ended the game with a career-high 18 points on the night, hitting three three-pointers in the process. Davis took over after Black, having 22 of his 27 points of the night in the second half and draining five three-pointers of his own on the night.

The Tar Heels definitely finished the night strong, and hopefully, they can carry that motion into their next matchup this Saturday when they host Notre Dame.
