Five-star defensive lineman Anthony Lucas of Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chaparral remains one of the most coveted uncommitted prospects in the 2022 class. He continues to take as many unofficial visits as possible. Notre Dame will host him this weekend in what is shaping up as a monster recruiting weekend for the Fighting Irish.

Lucas, who was at LSU this past weekend and will be at Alabama in a couple of weeks, will return to South Bend after taking an official visit on June 11.

The Fighting Irish are among a list of top teams, along with Alabama, Miami, Oregon, Texas A&M, LSU, USC and UCLA, that are fighting for the commitment from the five-star defender. There’s no clear trend, and may not be one, until Lucas finishes his round of unofficial visits for games this fall.

On3 National Analyst Chad Simmons talked with Lucas about where he stands with his recruitment.

Lucas part of big recruiting weekend for Notre Dame

With USC coming to town for a marquee matchup, Notre Dame is rolling out the red carpet for a long list of visitors. Anthony Lucas is the top name on the list, but there are plenty of other key visitors.

That list includes LSU quarterback commit Walker Howard of Lafayette (La.) St. Thomas More. The longtime Tigers commit will be on campus for an official visit following the news that LSU head coach Ed Orgeron will not return in that role next season.

Also scheduled for an unofficial visit is On300 safety Xavier Nwankpa of Altoona (Iowa) Southeast Polk.

On300 defensive lineman Hero Kanu of Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Margarita Catholic will be on his official visit after returning from an impressive trip to Oklahoma last weekend.

Consensus three-star athlete Carson Tabaracci, who is moving up the charts quickly with recruiters, is also set to take an official visit to Notre Dame this weekend. Tabaracci of Park City, Utah, was on an official visit to in-state Utah last weekend.

Longtime Notre Dame commitment and On300 linebacker Joshua Burnham of Traverse City (Mich.) Central will also take his official visit this weekend.

On300 IOL Billy Schrauth of Fond Du Lac (Wis.) St. Mary’s Springs will also be in South Bend. Intel says he’s leaning heavily toward the Irish and a commitment could come after this weekend.

Several coveted juniors are also scheduled to be on campus, including No. 10 overall QB Nicholaus Iamaleava of Downey (Calif.) Warren and OT Kadyn Proctor of Southeast Polk.

Other juniors to look for on the visit are Notre Dame DL commit Brenan Vernon, linebacker Drayk Bowen, DL Luke Montgomery, DB Peyton Bowen, RB Justice Haynes and many more.
