Former LSU coach Ed Orgeron continues to enjoy life with the headset off on Saturdays, making another appearance at a college football game this season. This time? He’s at Notre Dame, where he has already made one trip this season.

Orgeron was fired by LSU during the 2021 season, less than two full years removed from winning a national championship with the Tigers.

Notre Dame is set to host Stanford at 7:30 p.m. with a broadcast on NBC and streaming on Peacock, and Orgeron will be there to take in the game in South Bend.

Orgeron previously visited Notre Dame in September, showing up at a midweek practice to surprise the Fighting Irish.

Ed Orgeron’s Notre Dame trip latest venture as former LSU coach enjoys his time off from coaching

The former LSU coach said he made that Notre Dame trip with his three sons, who are looking to get into coaching. He’s talked previously about trying to hire current Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman while he was at LSU. In an ironic twist, then-Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly ended up being the man who replaced Orgeron as the head coach at LSU.

Freeman, of course, was promoted to the Fighting Irish head post.

“I interviewed Marcus at LSU,” Orgeron said. “Really, really respect him. I wanted to come up here, I’ve got three sons coaching. I wanted to show them what Notre Dame was and … this is the first time I get to come in and enjoy being around campus.

“And I’ll tell you what, going into that stadium and having the battles and having great memories. Yesterday, we drove up to the stadium, we went to go see their locker room to the right. I’m used to going to the left. But I enjoy being here. I wanted to see Marcus and the staff, bring my sons up here. We’re here all week. We’re just going to have a good time. Fun to be up here.”

Orgeron’s trip to the Notre Dame game is his second high-profile visit to a college game this season.

He also visited College Station, Texas, for the early season matchup between Texas A&M and Miami. Orgeron coached defensive line at Miami from 1988-1992.
